You have to be somebody to get a Maverick.

That’s just one of the lines of hyperbole used on the website for a company named Mxtrem Automobili, which is introducing not a customized Ford pickup truck but instead an “intense and intimidating” version of a Corvette C8.

The internet isn’t quite sure what to make of this creation, and whether it’s for real or just the product of an overzealous graphic designer remains to be determined.

Regardless, at least on paper, this is one cool-looking Corvette, inside and out.

Indeed, the company behind the Maverick calls it “a bold fusion of a fighter jet and a sports car, redefining expectations of what a car can look like.”

Somehow, we think creative geniuses like flamboyant General Motors designer Bill Mitchell would love this car. After all, many of the 1950s GM products featured jet fighter-inspired design themes.

The Maverick just takes that inspiration to new levels.

“Prepare to steal the spotlight with Maverick’s show-stopping, jaw-dropping design that will have all eyes on you at any event!” the company screams on the web, describing the Maverick as a “fighter jet on wheels with missiles that would make James Bond envious” and “an original and extremely unique work of automotive art.”

While the exterior includes extreme design features like sharp angles and afterburners, the interior likewise aspires to evoke the feeling of being in the cockpit of a fighter jet.

But get in line. The company says the Maverick is reserved for only a dozen “Extraordinary Individuals” who “appreciate exclusivity and originality.” Are you cool enough?

No two Mavericks will ever be the same, according to Mxtrem.

No word yet on how much this originality will set back the 12 customers deemed by the company to be the kind of “dedicated car collectors who will truly appreciate and showcase this extraordinary vehicle in all its glory.

But we are told that “this one-of-a-kind carbon fiber creation” will be based on the customer’s choice of Stingray, Z06, or E-Ray.

Right now, if you go to the Mxtrem website, you can send in your name and e-mail address where you’ll be asked questions like “how many cars do you have in the collection?” and “what cars do you have in your collection?” and “how long do you typically keep cars in your collection?” Finally, they are asking about your social media presence and the car events you usually attend.

So, do you think the Maverick will ever see a day when rubber will meet the road, or is this just a social media event designed to see how many enthusiasts are gullible enough to believe it’s for real?

  1. Is it April 1st? Am I missing something here?

Isn’t the C8 already overstyled and extremely angular as it is?

  2. William Leroy Mitchell (July 2,1912-Sept 12,1988) is responsible for creating and/or influencing the design of over 72.5 million automobiles produced by GM.

A few years before his death in 1988 , Bill Mitchell has this to say about the C4 Corvette, “That square box is pretty near plastic. The instruments panel-Dracula’s dressing room. It rides like a truck. It isn’t a style car, it’s an machine car, Engineers are running it. Earl would never let that-I would never let that happen, and I condemn the guys for it!”

    Many thanks,
    Ray

  3. If the missles, once launched, would home in on the car and make it disappear, I would approve.
