I think we’ve stumbled onto a new recurring content feature thanks to our friend Jeff Thomas and Chevrolet’s Live Inventory Tracker. This is the third time we’ve done this exercise and I really like the data it produces. Jeff figured out that if you use the zip code 64014 (Blue Springs, MO) on the live inventory tracker and extend the radius out to the maximum 2,000 miles, it essentially gives us a look at the entire Corvette inventory in the Continental USA. And when we do this on successive months, we get a nice trend line showing whether the C8 inventories are growing or shrinking.
Again, the caveat is that not all these Corvettes are actually available for sale as the list contains Customer Sold Orders as well as vehicles in transit to the dealers from the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green. But like we said before, its a publicly-available statistic from a legitime source, so it works for us.
The last time we ran these numbers, it was on the day after the Corvette Assembly Plant had closed for the three week holiday break. During that time, no new cars leave the plant, but there could have been transports that were still getting to their dealers, and which should have been counted in these numbers. With no new Corvettes delivered during the holidays, we could then compare that to what we pulled today and then see how many Corvettes were delivered during the time period.
Back on December 14th, that total number was 6,646 and as of today (January 8th), the Live Inventory Tracker shows 5,442 for a difference of 1,204 Corvettes. That’s an 18% reduction of Corvette inventories during that three week break. Check out our handy-dandy chart on the three reports we’ve run since August 2024:
