This 1957 Corvette survivor has the bones to become a living symbol of the ’50s.
Now, its owner is offering the car on Craigslist out of the Phoenix, Arizona area, with an asking price of $52,500.
“This is a very complete and honest survivor car with what is believed to be original paint, interior, and convertible top,” the seller claims in the listing.
The main thing that isn’t original, albeit it’s said to be period correct, is the replacement 283 V8 engine, and the car is said to be running and driving. No word on whether the Powerglide automatic transmission and the Posi-traction rear differential are the original units.
While most of the paint has worn off over the decades, the body appears to be in good condition overall, with the chrome and trim still in place, and underneath, the chassis is said to be “solid with no rust from long-term Oklahoma ownership.”
The owner claims the car is one of 611 built in ’57 with the power convertible top at a cost of $139.90, but the Corvette Black Book says the number is actually 1,336 out of the 6,339 total units that year. Regardless, the power top mechanism on this car is missing some of its components and the canvas top has several slits in it. A new Al Knoch canvas top is included with the sale, however.
The car also features working headlights, running lights, and brake lights, and the turn signals, horn, speedometer, tachometer, and fuel, temperature, and oil pressure gauges are functional.
The original Wonderbar radio and clock will need to be repaired, however.
So, do you think this car is worth the price in this condition?

Seems kinda high without the original motor. Maybe a good restomod. And what original paint?? Anything is fixable, but is it worth it??
Asking price is way too high for a Vette in this condition. It will need a body off recondition of the frame all the rubber components! Plus a paint job that will include getting the body ready for paint. Even doing it yourself it will cost at the very least another $20,000.
Not sure the paint will buff out…. $52,500 ? Really?
