Corvettes have fostered loyalty among enthusiasts for decades.
Just consider this 1957 Corvette that was bought new at an East Point Atlanta dealer by a man who would go on to drive it on his honeymoon to Daytona Beach. His son eventually drove it at homecoming when he was attending the University of Georgia in 1992.
Thirty-two years later, this Venetian Red Corvette is still in the same family and still in Atlanta. But now, the son has finally decided to part with this long-time heirloom because he no longer has time to finish a restoration project that saw him remove the engine for a rebuild still in progress.
As a result, the car is being offered on eBay with an asking price of $48,000 but that price is negotiable since he will entertain the best offer. Even if he does have to accept less, it’ll still represent quite a big return on the original price tag that would have been less than $3,500 not counting options!
It’s said to be original, other than the drivetrain and the paint. At some point over the past 67 years, the seller’s dad actually swapped the original 283 V8 engine and Powerglide automatic transmission (neither of which he no longer has, by the way) for a more powerful 327 and four-speed manual transmission and even added wider wheels.
The new owner will get the hardtop shown in the photos, but alas, there is no soft top hiding under the deck lid.
The car has also been repainted when it underwent a minor fender repair way back in 1985.
No matter how this sale winds up, we salute this Georgia family that has been loyal stewards of this vintage C1 since the very beginning. It’s actually kind of sad that it’ll be headed to a new home, but that’s life, isn’t it?
