My wife loves to relax watching pimple-popping videos on Facebook.
My vice, on the other hand, is sitting in my recliner watching decades of dirt being washed off classic cars on YouTube.
There’s just something soothing to a gearhead to see a beautiful old car walked back from the edge of a cliff after being neglected for a long time, isn’t there? Latest example for us?
This 1976 Corvette Stingray coupe that was restored inside and out several years ago with fresh paint, engine and interior.
But when the Vietnam vet who undertook all that work wound up getting married, it turned out his new bride didn’t care much for hubby’s old ride so it was parked and forgotten for a long time.
That’s where Brian says his dad entered the picture, somehow convincing the owner to sell him the car several years ago. But while they had it running for awhile, the brakes went out one day, so the car was parked once again and it now has even more years worth of dirt and grime covering it.
That’s where a YouTuber known as Detail Dane comes into the picture. To produce content for his channel, Dane offers free detailing to lucky car owners – just like Brian.
In his latest post, Detail Dane offers a play-by-play account of his many hours worth of work invested in bringing back one of the toughest exterior colors possible, black, and an equally challenging interior shade of bright white.
The finished product admittedly isn’t perfect, most notably with the big chunk of paint missing from the front bumper, but the overall effect is still a definite improvement. We liked it all, but we may have been most impressed with the job he was able to do on the aftermarket chrome wheels and the spoon-shaped rust-colored stain on the white passenger seat that we thought might be impossible to remove.
But Dane rises to the occasion, and the sparkling finished product definitely brings a big smile to owner Brian, who has already let him work on two of his other vehicles and even points to a nearby red and white C1 that isn’t all that nasty but could benefit from a paint correction.
It’s not shown on this video, but apparently Brian’s plan is to give the Corvette to his sister as a surprise. Wonder if there’s room in the family for another sibling?
