[VIDEO] The C8 Corvette ZR1 and Z06 are Also at the Nurburgring

We mentioned some of this news last week, but now have some additional photos and video to share. The Corvette engineering team has been in Germany since early last week and with them are four prototype C8 Corvettes that most assume are the performance hybrid ZORAs, but that’s not all!

We heard mention from the Corvette engineers at both Corvettes at Carlisle and the NCM 30th Anniversary Celebration that development work continues on the new ZR1. In fact, one of the reasons for the early reveal was so that engineers could finished development without the distractions of the camouflage and the cat and mouse game that goes on with spy photographers. Today, thanks to our friend Mike Furman, we have confirmation that a C8 Corvette ZR1 with the ZTK high wing is in Germany with the team as these photos from inside GM’s “secret lair” at the track confirms.

So far we haven’t seen any photos or video of this ZR1 on the Nürburgring, but it does have the same downward exhaust tips that are also on the ZORA prototypes. I really hope it gets to go back out on the Nordschleife during this visit!

The other reason for the Corvette ZR1 to be in Germany is for high speed testing at the ATP track in Papenburg, Germany. That’s the test track where the C7 ZR1 performed its 212 mph top speed run back in 2018. During the NCM Q&A, I do believe Josh Holder confirmed the ZR1 was going to do its top speed testing at Papenburg. The Corvette team has been touting a speed comfortably over 215 mph, and Chevy performs the test in both directions and then averages the results for its official time.

The other big news we got from our spy photographer last week was that a US-spec Corvette Z06 was with the team, and that car would be used for running a “supertest” hot lap by the German magazine Sport Auto and their pro driver Christian Gebhardt. As Christian has done laps in most of the Z06’s competitors, it will be a real apples-to-apples comparison whatever that time may be. Speaking of which, in an Instagram video, it appears that he has already run the ‘ring and was asking his fans what they think the lap time will be:
