When it comes to C2 Corvettes, the ’64s are sometimes ignored by collectors who often migrate to the ’63 split windows or the ’67 big-blocks.
But this tastefully done ’64 resto-mod being offered on Bring a Trailer needs to make no apologies. With four days left in the auction, the high bid of $45,000 is miles away from its final destination.
After all, it’s been the recipient of an in-depth, no-expenses-spared, frame-off restoration by Artisans Rods and Classics in Fort Wayne, Indiana from 2012-15 that included the installation of an LS2 V8 engine sourced from a 2008 Corvette from Dino’s Corvette Salvage and modified with an FAST intake manifold, a Wilson Manifolds throttle body, and an MSD Atomic EFI system.
Other mechanical upgrades include a Be Cool radiator, dual electric cooling fans, Hooker exhaust headers, a Billet Specialties accessory drive system, four-wheel disc brakes, VBP Suspension, Steeroids rack-and-pinion steering, a Tremec five-speed manual transmission, and a hydraulic clutch assembly.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though, when it comes to all the work done on this car, and it was all documented for future owners in an impressive book of professional photos.
Outside, the fiberglass body was recoated with a fresh Ermine White paint job, and reproduction knock-off cast aluminum wheels were installed.
The spectacular look of this car continues inside as well, with beautiful white seats accented nicely by red carpet and dash and white door panels accented with red carpet strips at the lower edge. Dakota Digital gauges have been installed, along with a Vintage Car Audio sound system and an upgraded Vintage Air system in place of the original A/C.
Originally delivered to Jack Coyle Chevrolet of San Bernardino, California, the car was NCRS verified in 2012 and comes with a reproduction window sticker that shows a final MSRP of slightly under $6,000 after nearly $1,800 worth of options were added to the base price of $4,252.
But now, after years of extensive refurbishments, this Sting Ray is better than new in many ways. As the seller points out in his detailed description, “this car is the ideal combination of a totally stock appearing midyear Corvette but with the reliability, performance, and creature comforts of a modern car. Built to the highest standards, this Corvette is ready to drive and show.”

I suspect you meant to type “$45,000”, as my computer shows the high bid now sitting at $47,000.
Yeah I did a double take on the high bid of $450,000. I was like $450,000 for that stock looking exterior plain white 64?
