A “cover girl” Corvette with a very public persona is up for sale on Facebook in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Katie Ellison, former communications and marketing manager for the National Corvette Museum, has put her beloved 1974 Corvette T-top coupe up for sale at an asking price of $20,000.
This Stingray with 52,657 miles features a 2018 repaint in the original shade of Mille Miglia Red and has the Custom Interior Trim package with wood-grain accents and carpet trim on the door panels, wood-grain accents on the console, and cut-pile carpeting, quite a deal for just $150 back in the day, along with A85 Custom Shoulder Belts.
The original owner appears to have been going for a luxury cruiser type of build, since the car is outfitted with a 350/195 horsepower L48 engine, Turbo-Hydro-Matic automatic transmission, air conditioning, tilt-telescopic steering column, and power brakes / steering / windows.
An aftermarket period-correct style radio with Bluetooth has been installed, though the original radio is available but not working. The car also has recently replaced BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires with 8-inch Rally wheels.
Katie is the fourth owner of the car, all from Kentucky, and original documents included with the sale are the 1974 Chevrolet Consumer Information brochure, Maintenance Schedule brochure, Emissions Control Systems Information and Warranty Brochure and Owner’s Manual.
Katie purchased the car in December 2016, her first Corvette, and quickly put it to use in a variety of ways likely connected to her job of promoting the National Corvette Museum.
For example, her car appeared with a Torch Red C7 on the cover of the NCM’s America’s Sports Car Magazine and was used in filming of Season 4, Episode 2 of Engineering Catastrophes on Science Channel.
It was the National Corvette Museum Bash Celebrity Choice Car Show Winner by former Corvette Plant Manager Wil Cooksey and once carried former County Judge Executive and current NCM Board Member Mike Buchanon in the Bowling Green Veteran’s Day Parade.
It’s also appeared in the Western Kentucky University Talisman and American Car Collector magazine, along with the Bowling Green CVB Halloween/John Carpenter promotions.
“I’m not all about the car so much as the people that come with it,” Katie said in one magazine article, noting that the Corvette hobby had allowed her to form friendships through road trips and hundreds of car shows that she has attended.
