It’s not every day you come across a 727-horsepower 1966 Corvette coupe with a five-speed manual transmission.
But those are the credentials of this very cool Sting Ray being offered on Bring a Trailer.
With three days left in the auction, the high bid has already hit $80,000, and no wonder once you find out more about this updated classic.
For starters, the current owner has been in possession of this Corvette for 45 years – since 1979!
He’s had plenty of time to make it his own, with custom touches like a 572 cubic inch Chevrolet Performance crate engine with forged rotating assembly and aluminum cylinder heads – good for a mind-blowing 727 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque.
As one person commented on BaT:
Builder: “How much motor do you want in your vette?“
Owner: “Yes”
You can watch this behemoth of a motor in action in a test-drive video with the listing, as the driver shifts the gears in the Keisler manual transmission surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery.
A revised front sway bar and a VBP rear suspension have also been added to help keep that awesome power under control.
In 1982, the seller repainted the car using lacquer in its original shade of Rally Red, and at least in the amazing collection of professional photos, it still looks stunning 42 years later.
The black leather interior looks stunning as well, with the twin bucket seat covers, instrument panel, console, carpet, and teakwood steering wheel in excellent condition.
All in all, this is a ’66 that serves as potential proof that the second-generation Sting Rays are among the most beautiful cars ever built. And this one even has extra performance to boot.

I’ve always held that factory spec Corvettes are real sports cars. But there is a line you can cross with modifications where a Corvette becomes a muscle car. A 572 and rubber rake cross that line very nicely.

Stunning looking first class build that would be a blast to drive. Forty two year old paint looks unbelievably great, if it really looks as well as it appears in the pics.
Personally, I’ve always thought the small block C2’s where the most fun to drive. Better balance, more nimble feeling etc. This car sounds good, but the new owner will never be able to really wind out a 727 HP Corvette on a curvy road.
