Not all Corvettes are meant to be trailer queens or museum pieces. Just take a look at this 1962 convertible that could be headed to a new owner by Monday night when an eBay auction in Indiana is slated to end. While this end-of-a-generation Corvette isn’t perfect, it still appears to represent an excellent opportunity for someone to pick up a driver-quality C1 to enjoy this summer without breaking the bank or having to fret over a new rock chip or scratch.
Indeed, the high bid this afternoon is just $44,700, and how much higher that number must go remains a mystery, though the seller did lower the reserve on June 20.
The price is no doubt being hurt by the lack of an original engine under the hood, as one of the four 327 variants available that year is no longer there, instead replaced by a 350 V8 hooked to a four-speed manual transmission.
Despite that lack of originality, the seller says his car “runs and drives great and is a very fun car to drive!”
He describes it as an older restoration that’s still “wonderful driver quality.”
There’s no word on the originality of the black paint, but since the car is said to have been restored at some point, it’s likely been repainted over the years. It looks good enough still, and the swirl marks present in the listing photos might be removed with some careful polishing.
The black canvas top looks to be in excellent condition, as do the glass and chrome, and the black interior shows little signs of wear, too.
If you’re not overly concerned with originality and perfection, this might be a fun car to enjoy this summer. Will it be you behind the wheel in a few days?
