[SPIED] GM is Benchmarking a Ferrari SF90 Stradale, Are these the C8 Corvette Zora?

One of the most interesting aspects of watching the Corvette Engineers testing their new prototypes in public is to see what other cars they are using as their benchmark. Previously we’ve seen GM driving the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the Ferrari 458 Italia and 488 GTB, and even an Acura NSX was with the group as they were driving the pre-production E-Rays. Because the engineers want to compare apples to apples, we can usually look at the Benchmark cars to get an idea of what might be hiding under all the camo.

So when Chevy engineers were captured this week testing with a Ferrari SF90 Stradale, which is a V8 powered plugin hybrid EV featuring three electric motors, our antennas definitely went up. With the V8 engine alone, the car is capable of 769 horsepower and three electric motors can add an additional 217 horsepower for nearly 1,000 horsepower combined. With these performance specifications, the SF90 can accelerate 0 to 60 mph in a mere 2.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 211 mph. What’s really impressive about the SF90 is its ability to go 0 to 124 mph in just 6.7 seconds, making it one of the fastest production cars currently available for sale. It’s also one of the most expensive as its starting price is $625K!

Seeing that the Corvette Engineering team is driving an AWD Ferrari SF90 Stradale with a group of C8 Corvette prototypes, we’re thinking that these could be the rumored Corvette Zora prototypes which are named after the first Chief Engineer of the Corvette, Zora Arkus-Duntov. The Corvette Zora is expected to arrive sometime around 2027-2028 and when it does come, it will be the top dog in the C8 Corvette hierarchy. The Zora is expected to feature the ZR1’s twin-turbocharged V8 plus the E-Ray’s performance hybrid system to create an eAWD sportscar capable of 1,000 horsepower.

These pictures come from the Facebook group C8 Corvette Owners (and Friends) and it shows the Corvette engineers had stopped for lunch in Vermillion Ohio. Before they went into the restaurant, the prototypes were all covered which is something else that we usually don’t see with the current batch of Corvette ZR1 prototypes running around in public. Following this sighting, there was another photo that showed up in the comments saying they were spotted in Pittsburgh, PA.

With this group of Corvette engineers currently engaged in public street testing, we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground for any new sightings. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!

  1. Cannot wait to see the ZR-1, but I do have a question for the editor:

Why don’t you just say that all these are controlled leaks and that all these contributors who are almost always conveniently on hand to see the test fleet roll up are members of the test team themselves?

This is almost as obvious as the “Chazcron” fellow who released extremely geometrically accurate C8-Z51 renderings within mere hours of the first confirmed ‘at distance’ sighting of the C8.R back in 2018….all the way down to the slightly longer right hand rear view mirror post. Totally not a GM employee authorized to drop pre-approved leaks, right?

I get it that you guys probably can’t disclose this, but come on….
