Hello everyone and welcome back to our Finding a New Road series where you get to ride along as I play with my 1978 25th Anniversary Corvette. This episode will be a bit different as my Corvette just went live on the Hemmings Auctions website.
Catch up on our previous episodes here:
Part 1: Here We Go Again
Part 2: Ready for the Road?
Part 3: Showtime at Bloomington Gold
Part 4: Betting on Benchmark

Part 6: The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals
In our most recent episode last November, I had just picked up Concourse Gold and Triple Diamond awards at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals. That fun weekend in Chicago wrapped up a whirlwind year and half with my C3.
Also in that last episode, I mentioned that I was considering selling the old silver car and passing it along to a new caretaker. Well, after much thought and very little time to allocate towards the car I have made the decision to indeed make the car available for sale on Hemmings Auctions. With all the activity around our Detroit Bureau and various transport and sporting events for the two unpaid interns, I just don’t see the car getting much use. In fact, it’s only been out of the garage 2-3 times since the MCACN show last year.
Seeing a great Corvette just sitting around drives me nuts so it’s time to move this one along to a home that will be able to do more with it. Plus, two other Corvettes in the garage is more than enough for me at the moment.
It’s been a great run with this one and I’ve gained an appreciation for the later C3’s. I’ve always heard from people passionate about them, and now I understand why. Take all the rudeness and crudeness out the early C3’s, add in some cold A/C and you’ve got a great driving old Corvette. Radial tires mean you’re not pulled by every undulation in the road. Power steering and brakes translate into confident maneuverability. Heck, even the old school CB is fun if you’re able to find someone actually using another one these days. Breaker, Breaker, 1-9.
This is such a neat car with many little nuances and unique items. The rare combination of L82 and M21 4-speed isn’t seen every day. Then there’s that plastic Vega steering wheel not often seen on a 25th Anniversary edition. From the initial sale at (the other) Yenko Chevrolet to the loving care of the three owners prior to me, this is a Corvette anyone would love to own. Even the mis-stamped engine pad and transmission make for something different from the average bear.
So bid early and bid often. Tell your friends. The Hemmings Auction runs through Tuesday, June 4th at 4:45pm EDT and I’ll be actively participating and answering questions throughout. The reserve is reasonable, so feel there’s a decent chance it’ll sell.
So, what’s next? Well, I have no idea. I’m still perusing 4-seat metal cars and virtually anything else that interests me. Lately, I’ve been studying Scat Pack Challengers and Jeep Wranglers. I’ve been down this road before and, historically, it’s ended at another Corvette so stay tuned…
