Is the long-maligned C4 Corvette starting to get the attention from the used-car market that many enthusiasts believe it deserves?
Based on the 46 bids that this 1994 Corvette convertible has attracted in a no-reserve auction on eBay, the answer could be a resounding “yes.”
The high bid has already climbed to $15,900, and the auction will end on Tuesday night.
For that kind of money, the eventual owner will be getting “a very nice” Corvette, in the words of the seller who furthermore calls it “a pleasure to drive, like a new car.”
Best of all, they’ll be getting a C4 Corvette in a pretty rare color as Admiral Blue covered only 1,584 cars that year. Most of us remember this shade primarily because it would go on to become the background color of the ’96 Grand Sport. Indeed, a non-traditionalist might even consider adding a white stripe and red hash marks to this one to create a GS clone at a much lower price.
The seller, no doubt, wouldn’t consider such a move. He explains that he bought this Corvette “because I was told this is the next up-and-coming collector car to own.” Therefore, he searched for a “rare one” like this example, with “every” option, even the uncommon Low Tire Pressure Warning Indicator and Selective Ride and Handling. The six-speed manual transmission, which appeared on only 6,012 of the 23,330 cars built in ’94, is yet another desirable feature as well.
But now the current owner says he’s beginning another project and can’t spare the room in his shop, a decision he believes he “will regret … as soon as it drives away.”
Based on the photos with the listing, the car appears to have been babied its entire life, but we like the fact that it has been driven only 43,800 miles – enough to keep it in optimal operating condition but not so many that it might require extensive mechanical attention.
The gray leather interior looks to be in good shape, too, though the driver’s seat is showing signs of minor wear. We’re also not that crazy about the aftermarket electronic device that’s been added rather sloppily below the radio in the center stack.
All in all, though, it’s certainly nice to see some attention being focused on nice C4 Corvettes like this one.
