In case you’re looking for the “next big thing” in the Corvette world, you might want to take a look at the 2019 Corvette ZR1.
With only 2,441 coupes and a miniscule 512 convertibles built during the last year of production for the front-engine version of “America’s Sports Car,” it’s likely values for these ZR1s are heading nowhere but toward the sky in the coming years.
Here’s one such ZR1 convertible that’s guaranteed to leave you drooling. Even if you can’t afford the price of admission – a whopping $279,000 that’s nearly double the MSRP of $150,465 – it’s still worth watching this YouTube video, if only to give your eyes a magnificent treat.
This Corvette Racing Yellow convertible is on the market, available through the guys at JFK Auto, an exclusive dealership in northeastern Pennsylvania about two hours from New York City.
They’ve been looking high and low for five years, but the video host admits “It has been extremely difficult to find well-kept, well-spec’d examples of the ZR1
convertible.”
But their persistence definitely paid off with this ZR1, with impressive features like the 3ZR Equipment Group ($10,000 option), ZTK Track Performance Package ($2,995), chrome wheels with yellow calipers, Jake center caps and hood, and black competition seats with yellow switching.
“This car definitely checks all the right boxes when it comes to your collectability, all your documentation, has the window sticker, has your poster with a specific VIN, battery tender, build sheets, I mean everything,” the seller says. “This car just has so much curb appeal, so much eye appeal to it. Everything is done right – I would not change a thing.”
But forget about all that eye appeal for a second. Just remember that the one-year-only ZR1 also packed a mighty punch with its 755-horsepower V8 engine under a bulging hood that had to be expanded to make way for the most powerful factory engine ever to grace a Corvette in its now 71-year history. (Until another ZR1 in the eighth generation appears later this summer.)
This particular example is literally still in the wrapper, with the factory plastic covering the steering wheel, seats, and the glossy parts of the dash. Sadly, it’s been driven just 102 miles to this point, and at this price tag, it’s likely that number won’t ever be going much higher.
About the only negative, at least in certain circles, is the eight-speed automatic transmission instead of the now-extinct seven-speed manual that was ignored by enthusiasts for years but now highly desired since they can no longer buy one in a new Corvette. On the bright side, the seller believes the asking price would be about double if the manual were in place on this example.
I’ve never really considered buying a yellow Corvette, but this one certainly is a mind-changer. What about you?
