Corvettes for Sale: 1968 L89 Corvette Convertible With Racing Pedigree

Just a few weeks after buying this 1968 L89 Corvette convertible from Potamkin Chevrolet in Philadelphia, the owner went out and used it to set a track record.

With new slicks and a 4.56 gear set installed by a Philly speed shop, the car roared to a time of 11.89 seconds @ 117mph.

But that was just the beginning of this remarkable Corvette’s legacy. It would remain with its original owner until April 2022, but now this well-preserved 20,000-mile car is being offered on yenko.net for $135,000.

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, the car competed in A-Stock Production class at local tracks like Atco Raceway and Vargo Dragway.

It is one of only 624 L89 aluminum head/tri-carb 427/435 horsepower Corvettes built during the first year of the third generation. With the same balanced and blueprinted engine that remains under the hood to this day, it even captured the New Jersey state championship in 1975 at Atco Raceway with a time of 11.68 seconds.

A “Day Two” street racer modified early in its life, this Corvette also retains the same custom paint job applied 51 years ago by Barry Hackett Auto Body in Warminster, PA.

Custom paint aside, however, originality is the real name of the game for this car, which has never been driven in inclement weather, has a no-hit body, and sports an underside with its original paint markings and body mount tape still in place.

The original black interior is unrestored and still in excellent condition, and the original soft top and hardtop are included, along with two hoods – a real L88 hood with a wild custom paint job and the stock 427 hood with its original Silverstone Silver paint.

The new owner will also receive many other original parts like the rims and tires, side pipe covers, intake, and exhaust manifolds. Even the original bill of sale and tank sticker are included.
