Okay, just a quick disclosure as some of what Brink of Speed is going to discuss did originate from here. On Friday we had a poll about a new 2024 color that’s currently available only on the Chevy Traverse RS and the Blazer EV. The color is called Stardust Metallic on the Traverse while the Blazer refers to it as Galaxy Gray Metallic. You the readers voted 53% to 47% that it would be a great addition to the exterior C8 colors, so I’m not alone in thinking that this color is worth another look.

Being that it was Friday, later that night as I was building an E-Ray for fun when I had the idea to make it purple in Photoshop. I actually used a Violet filter and it wasn’t really meant to be a representation of the Traverse/Blazer’s Stardust Galaxy Metallic (way better name, right?). But I shared it with a couple of friends who shared it with a couple of friends and that was that. I did two versions and posted this second one on MECF:

Our friend Mike Brink picked up on it, but his conversation about 2025 colors and what customers want with their Corvette colors goes deeper and is worth the watch.

One of his central topics in this video is about exclusive colors, both within the Corvette lineup and within General Motors as well. I would bet that members of the Corvette Team have had the discussions about making some paints exclusive to certain models and with several more C8 variations in the pipeline, maybe that will happen. However, the flip side is that the assembly plant is capable of producing 14 colors, so giving customers access to the widest variety of exteriors is equally important. It’s also good for the bottom line as five of those colors are premium shades available for an additional price.

But what about Chevrolet or GM allowing some colors to be exclusive to the Corvette versus also appearing on a Traverse or Blazer EV? Or, what about offering the Holy Grail of exterior colors – and going all in on the Porsche model – by charging $5,000 extra for a paint to sample option? Brink talks about all that and more.

  1. As an update, Porsche now charges $13,000 for paint to sample…mainly because so many parts are outsourced, and it becomes a complicated process. Same idea with custom interiors. So, $5,000 could be a bargain option for Corvette buyers.

  2. Many Corvette buyers these days are older. The last thing you want to do when you’re an old guy is to buy gray car to attract attention and associate yourself with being old. Don’t buy ANYthing gray. Lol.
