Cruising through YouTube last night I came across this video featuring a 2020 Corvette Stingray Z51 running a smoking-fast lap at Laguna Seca. While the Z06 may now be the track attack vehicle of choice for many track-day enthusiasts, the C8 Corvette Z51 is no slouch when it comes to being able to put down fast lap times when in the hands of a capable driver.

The title of the video shows the driver’s lap time to be 1:37.5 and he has an on-board timer in the POV video you can see as well. Wondering how fast that was, I found that Randy Pobst ran a stock 2020 Stingray Z51 at 1:37.883 in a lap he did for Motor Trend while Speed Phenom says he set the original C8 record with a time of 1:38 back in August 2020.

This 2020 Corvette does have some upgrades that would be beneficial on the track. The description lists the mods and they include Brembo BBK brakes and Anderson Composites’ high wing spoiler, splitter, and side skirts. The car also has a Verus rear diffuser and Magnaflow X-Mode Cat Back exhaust. Finally, the car is riding on Forgeline wheels with Goodyear Supercar tires.

Enjoy the fun ride along!

From 168 Track Time on YouTube:

First session of the day. Car is definitely softer with stock mag-ride and less confidence inspiring that KW V5. Found myself braking earlier and softer to not shift the weight too much forward. I was hoping the stock suspension would be similar to what’s on SS 1LE but looks like my search for suspension upgrade on this car will continue.

  1. if you enjoyed this video , you should go to Spring Mountain and drive their C8s for 2 days on a track like this….. I hope to go again….

  2. I’ve done the Jim Russel 3-day race school, Bertil Roos 2-day and Skip Barber two-day. There’s nothing like being out on the track and learning handling dynamics but at the same time have a blast. You get hooked which isn’t a bad thing to become addicted to. I knew I would never be proficient nor wealthy enough to pursue racing as a career, yet those 3 courses I took proved their worth many, many times over on the back road/street/interstate driving I do much of. Looking back, I’ve avoided more crashes and errant drivers than I can count. I hope to do Daytona and shoot for a 175. Spring Mountain sounds like real fun. Maybe someday! ( BTW I don’t really speed on the street- one can easily get killed doing 45mph. It’s all about quick reaction times and reading the road ahead in a focused, yet relaxed manner)
