On the heels of a disappointing GTD Pro debut last month at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, another Corvette Z06 GT3.R team is getting ready to try its hand in the new LMGT3 division of the FIA World Endurance Championship in Dubai.

TF Sport, led by Tom Ferrier, recently spent two days turning laps in a couple of Z06 GT3.Rs already fitted with their racing liveries to get a feel for the cars’ abilities in advance of the upcoming Qatar 1812km on March 2, with at least six drivers putting in time behind the wheel of the Corvettes.

One member of the team is urging fans to be cautious in their expectations.

“I’m the kind of driver who doesn’t like to set expectations too high,” Spaniard Daniel Juncadella told SportsCar365. “I don’t think that helps the mentality and the focus. But on the other hand it’s great to be doing all this mileage in the car ahead of the season, because it will give me the experience to help guide the team in the first few weeks.”

His teammates include fellow factory star Charlie Eastwood, along with Bronze-rated drivers Tom van Rompuy and Hiroshi Koizumi and the Silver-rated team of Rui Andrade and Sebastien Baud.

TF Sport will become the first team to represent Corvette in the new LMGT3 category, where Juncadella will be making his WEC debut as Corvette factory driver.

They’ll be hoping to repeat the success of the Ferrier teams that captured seven class wins, 14 other podiums, and the GTE-Am title in 2022, all with Aston Martin cars.

“I know there will be support from Corvette in the early days because everything is so new,” Juncadella said to sportscar365. “But the TF Sport guys are also very high-level. I got to know them last year when we did a test at COTA, and they are highly motivated to be successful. Still, we have to accept that it’s early days and we can’t go into the first round thinking we’re going to blow the field away.”

Indeed, Juncadella already knows disappointment behind the wheel of the new Z06 GT3.R as he and his teammates finished fifth in class as part of the Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports unit in GTD Pro at last month’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Nevertheless, Juncadella believes the experience he gained in that race will help him and his teammates in their WEC debut next month in Qatar.

“It’s a brand new car, it’s a new championship for me, and it’s Pro-Am, so there are many things coming into play,” Juncadella says. “My main focus is to help my teammates get up to speed as quickly as possible, because they will have more impact on the speed of the car.”
