Maybe the driver of this C7 Z06 forgot just what kind of Corvette he had.
While the legendary Chevy sports car did earn its name from the high-speed small warships of the late 1600s, we don’t think GM intended for its version to go swimming, the way this one recently did in California.
News reports say that the 650-horsepower Torch Red Corvette was going too fast around a turn on South Newmark Avenue near East American Avenue in Parlier, a small town in central California.
The result was a crash into a nearby canal, where the Corvette wound up on its side partially submerged.
Despite photos showing only minor damage to the rear bumper after the car was pulled out of the canal by a tow truck, it’s possible that the Corvette may have also suffered water damage to the interior as well as the sensitive electronics that help these high-tech C7s do their job.
California Highway Patrol posted a reminder to motorists that the faster you’re driving, the less time you have to prepare and react to hazards on the road, including negotiating sharp curves.
Fortunately, the two occupants of this Corvette escaped injury, thanks to properly wearing their seatbelts, with the CHP noting that the belts do help prevent and reduce more serious injuries.
By the way, what do you think about that high-wing ZR1-style wing on the back?

Who’s the U-Boat Commander?
He was hoping that the wing would make the car fly.
YOU MORON….
Man this really sucks for this unlucky Z06 owner, especially if the sophisticated electronics have turned to shit from going in the water. I like the high wing on the back. I’ve seen aftermarket rear high wings on both wide body and narrow body C7’s and I think they look good on both. I like the add on boy racer look on the C7 as long as it doesn’t go too far to look stupid.
Damn it! I hate it when that happens!
