~January 13th, 1975 was the date of the Retirement dinner for Zora Duntov and the first few pictures are of the actual internal memo and invitation along with the list of guest speakers that evening. This is from my Zora collection as I was fortunate to spend every Summer (1978-1990) with Zora when he and Elfie spent time at Malcolm Konner Chevrolet as he attended the Malcolm Konner Corvette show held every June at the dealership on Rte 17 North in Paramus, NJ.
I have several autographs and many pictures but the memories of spending time watching and listening to him will last me a lifetime. Many thanks to the Konner family for allowing me to be a small part of that time in Corvette history. I always repeat Zora’s quote to me when I asked him about future product every year and in his heavy accent he would reply: Michael, Rumors sell magazines, not cars!“
Back in the Winter 2002/2003 a very nice dressed 50 ish year old woman walked in and said she was seeking this specific Corvette as a gift for her husband. She proceeded to tell me the story and her reasons. Their 25th Anniversary was coming up and it was also her husbands 50th Birthday. The two of them had frequented a certain small town restaurant most every Saturday eve for the last 25+ years and had the same waitress for approx 20 years. Each time the meal had ended the waitress would ask the same question “Can I bring you anything else?” And the husband would always answer the exact same way, “Yes, keys to a brand new Corvette!” They all would laugh and she would give him the dinner check. Now, he had never owned a Corvette but it was his childhood dream like most of us Corvette enthusiasts.
So I do a Nationwide dealer locate search for an auto trans 2003 50th Anniversary Convertible and I was able to locate one at a small dealer in South Dakota. I completed the Dealer swap and had the Corvette enclose trailered in to Maryland from South Dakota. The woman came in and did the paperwork/payment process and we set the plan in motion. That Saturday night I brought the new Corvette and parked it behind the small restaurant and walked inside to hand the keys to the waitress. Well as you can guess, they finished their meal and right on cue the waitress asked her end of the night question and like clock work the husband goes, “yes, keys to a new Corvette”…so she went in her apron and handed him keys to his New Corvette! The whole restaurant crowd stood up and walked out back and the husband was absolutely speechless as you can imagine. The wife said Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary and I took care of their dinner bill as they drove off in their new Corvette, top down of course. You can bet my GM survey was Completely Satisfied.

I recommend their process the next time you take delivery at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY!

Would love to know the full story on the 55 Vette for sale with $3500 invested that was built and owned by Arkus Duntov and how it ended up in Lagrange,IL. Where is it and what’s the sell price today?
The story of the 50th Birthday and 25th Anniversary Special Delivery was a great one.
