Corvettes for Sale: Wild LS1-Powered 1966 Corvette Convertible on BaT

This 1966 Corvette resto-mod checks all the right boxes, at least for this writer.

After all, what’s not to like about an LS1-powered Sting Ray convertible that comes with a six-speed manual transmission and tastefully done body mods?

Already, the high bid on this custom C2 updated with various C5 and C6 parts has climbed to $51,000, and there are still six days left in the Bring a Trailer auction.

We’re usually not fans of C2s that don’t have rotating headlights, but this one hits the right spot with its late-model Camaro halo headlights that are always visible just below the hoodline and even retains the chrome bumpers and grille to complete the picture up front.

The seller reportedly bought the car as a project 10 years ago and by 2017 had given renewed life to a C5 donor car that surrendered its 5.7-liter LS1 V8 engine (updated with aluminum radiator, custom air-intake system, Optima battery, and battery cut-off switch), shortened torque tube, six-speed manual gearbox and rear differential, and front and rear suspension and brake components.

Steel plate reinforcement was added over the trailing arm pockets, and the original C2 frame was then sandblasted, primed, and painted before C5 disc brakes, power rack-and-pinion steering, and adjustable QA1 coilovers were added.

Before a liberal coating of Ford “Blue Flame” paint was added, the body was modified in several areas, including the rear arches that are flared 3 inches per side and the front arches flared 2 inches per side, the installation of custom side skirts that include exhaust outlets, and a nicely done twin hump convertible top cover panel. Once the retractable headlight openings were closed and smoothed, a modern headlight configuration was installed and then flanked by amber lights that also function as turn signals.

The new owner will also receive a rolling stand to hold the matching hardtop, in case he tires of the black soft top.

Inside, this car continues to sparkle with the addition of modified C6 heated and power seats done in gray with blue accents, Schroth harnesses, black, gray and blue door panels, black carpet, blue center armrest with cupholders, and custom headrests integrated into the humps on the decklid.

In case you’re a taller person, the driver’s pedal box has been enlarged, and a dead pedal has been added. You’ll also find AutoMeter digital instrumentation, a digital stereo, and a Vintage Air climate control system. About the only negative thing we can say about this car is that the air conditioner does not work. As nice as this car is, that’s a real head-scratcher.

Do you agree that this is one bee-you-tee-ful Sting Ray?

  1. First picture was a convertible scroll down second picture was not a convertible which one is for sale? I’m looking for a 66-67 Corvette blue convertible preferably white leather seats with white top.

  2. Same car. Just hard top is on. It’s a convertible. I’d be real interested in seeing what this goes for as I will be letting go of my 67 restomod.

  3. Just so you know the car in the second picture is the same convertible. It is shown with the optional removable hardtop installed.
