Corvettes for Sale: Black/Red 1963 Corvette Split Window on Bring a Trailer

Sometimes a Corvette up for sale on Bring a Trailer may be an “off” color combination that doesn’t appeal to the masses.

That’s certainly not the case with this beautiful Tuxedo Black over red leather 1963 Sting Ray split window coupe, a combination that’s proving to be so popular that the high bid has already hit $175,000 with another two days left in the auction.

Production for ’63 was pretty much evenly divided among coupes and convertibles, with this split window being one of the 10,594 built during the C2’s debut year, compared to another 10,919 convertibles.

In 1996, the car underwent an extensive body-off restoration by Sutton Corvette Shop of Chestertown, Maryland, and an itemized listing of all the work done at that time has been provided. It remains in top-notch condition years after earning a Bloomington Gold certification in 2007, a Triple Crown award in 2008, and NCRS Top Flight, Performance Verification, and Duntov Mark of Excellence awards from 2003 to 2010.


The seller – Corvette Mike – has owned the car for 10 years, purchasing it as part of the Dennis Higginbotham Collection at Mecum Spring 2013. A copy of the original title from 1963 is included, showing the car was first purchased in Maryland.

This vintage C2 has an L76 327/340 horsepower V8 engine under the hood. Other equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, Positraction rear axle, fully independent suspension, four-wheel power drum brakes, 15-inch steel wheels, and 205/70 Firestone Wide Oval tires.


It includes three huge binders full of documentation, including factory paperwork, owner history, photos of the restoration, awards and much more.
