Corvettes for Sale: 1963 Corvette Split Window Offered on Craigslist

The 1963 Corvette Sting Ray split window coupe is the Holy Grail for many enthusiasts.

That certainly seems to be the case with this Sting Ray that’s been in the same family since 1975, since the current owner’s father found it at the tender age of 16 in 1975 in California. He eventually fell victim to Prince’s 1982 hit song “Little Red Corvette” and had his car’s original Sebring Silver paint redone in Riverside Red.

After more than a decade of fun, the car sat in storage from the early 1990s until 2023, with the owner’s son inheriting it during that time in 2014. Now, after recently asking his godfather mechanic to check it out and get it “running and driving” again, he has put it on the market, asking $115,000 on Craigslist out of the Ithaca, New York area.

That nearly 40-year-old repaint job in red is still rated a 7 out of 10 by the seller, who notes there are “some dry spots, some solvent pop, a few very light scratches, and some hairline cracks in the paint which is typical of a fiberglass vehicle that was painted in the 80s.”

He admits having “no intentions of asking [his mechanic] to make every little thing perfect on it” and lists a few of the items he knows of that are still on the to-do list.

While new tires have already been installed, the list of projects still includes installing headlight motors (with new parts provided for the new owner), getting the gauges to work again, checking out the brake and turn signals that need “either new bulbs or check wiring,” installing a new antenna, looking into a small oil leak, and repairing the functional brakes that are “a bit grabby.”

“Besides the minor repairs,” he says, “the car starts, runs, and idles very nicely.”

While ’63 Corvettes are likely to remain highly desirable collectibles in the future, the asking price of $115,000 seems a bit too much for a car that still needs this much work. If it were our car, we’d be inclined to never part with such a sentimental vehicle, but we understand everyone’s circumstances are different.

If we did decide to sell, however, we’d put a few more bucks in it and have a Corvette expert check it out, make the necessary repairs, and then jack up the price, making a potential buyer much more likely to want to shell out more than $100 grand for a 60-year-old toy.
