[VIDEO] C8 Corvette Z06 vs Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica on DragTimes is Neck and Neck!

Enjoy this while it lasts, folks! Z06 vs. Huracán has become such a common matchup that it’s easy to take it for granted like many did during all of those years of enjoying Manning v. Brady in NFL Prime Time. Just like those legendary quarterback duels or the even more distant Bird and Magic matchups, battles between naturally aspirated midengined supercars from America and Italy will soon be a thing of the past. The Raging Bull’s all-time best-selling sports/supercar will end production in 2024, and every example to come has already been spoken for, so this budding rivalry of purist driving cars is already on borrowed time.

The last time they met, the Z06 managed to edge the Evo variant of the V10 Lambo in two out of three straight-line contests. This time, courtesy of the DragTimes YouTube channel, the high-revving ‘Vette is getting a shot at the crazier Tecnica model. Just like last time, the Z is bringing more firepower to the table. It’s 5.5L LT6 V8 out muscles the Lambo’s 5.2L V10 by a margin of 670 to 640. Unlike in the previous matchup, the example representing the Crossed Flags on the blacktop this go-around is a coupe. Even in this, slightly lighter configuration, the Z06 is still significantly harder on the scale than its Italian adversary. At around 3,600 lbs. the ‘Vette is carrying 250 more pounds than the beautiful – but unfortunately named – Uranus Blue import. Both are on even ground as rear-wheel-drivers, but the Corvette’s Z07 track package might act as a bit of a hinderance vs the base aero convertible that we saw a few weeks back. There’s also about a $130,000 delta between the MSRPs at play, here. The last notable thing before we get to the actual drags is the fact that this particular Rapid Blue Z07 had just barely been broken-in when it rolled up to the strip.

With that out of the way, it’s on to the first period, where the ‘Vette and its driver show their youth with an 11.199 @ 127.63 MPH on a redlight, which is half of a second to .7 of a second behind where the ‘Vette was in its last Lambo throwdown (it is also pretty incredible to think that the new Z06 runs supercharged C6 ZR1 times on its off days!). To its credit, the Tecnica never trailed in the first-round while ripping off a 10.558 at a blistering 131 MPH. When the Christmas tree turns green in round two, the Z is on its game, jumping out to an early lead. It is neck-and-neck the entire time, but, perhaps because of the Z07 package’s additional drag, the Lambo takes it by a nose, 10.53 to 10.56! The difference was in the top end where the Bull was traveling 130.62 MPH to the Corvette’s 128.1 MPH. That proves to be the ‘Vette’s best run, but even though it goes 0-3 this time around, we feel pretty confident about who would win on the American’s home turf (a road course), and we remain absolutely floored about how excellent those 18-cylinders sound when they are all firing at the same time. We might be on the verge of seeing faster cars out of both manufacturers, but, once these two are gone, they’ll never sound this good again!
