Corvettes for Sale: 1973 Corvette Wagon on Craigslist

If you’re looking for a C3 project car that’s out of the ordinary, you might want to take a look at this 1973 Corvette wagon conversion.

Apparently idling in the midst of a restoration, this unusual Corvette has now been put up for sale for $7,250 on craigslist out of the Lomita, California area – that’s southwest of Los Angeles for the geographically challenged.

The most intriguing thing about this Corvette is the photo that shows the vertical rear hatch open, revealing a rather large trunk that appears more than big enough to hold a couple of sets of golf clubs – which apparently is the way many enthusiasts determine a Corvette’s usefulness these days.

Of course, the new owner might not have time to play a round of golf because he’ll be too busy restoring this Corvette.

The body actually seems to be in decent shape overall, including some fiberglass repairs already made to the right front fender, but a new paint job is definitely needed.

That exterior includes the iconic chrome bumpers at the rear of the car, as the ’73 marked the last year for that design feature before urethane bumpers appeared on both ends of Corvettes from ’74 onward.

If you think the C8 has blind spots, take a look at this customized C3. It would have been much more practical to have some glass cutouts on the side of the rear conversion to help with backward vision, but maybe an enterprising new owner can take care of that now.

The interior is a work in progress, with no door panels currently installed, though fortunately a photo does show both of them standing next to the car. Elsewhere, the radio has been taken out, and the overall interior looks a bit worse for the decades and could use a lot of sprucing up.

Mechanically, not many details are provided in the listing, though we are told the car does start and run and features a 350 engine with headers and HEI distributor, along with a four-speed manual transmission. Other highlights include full power on the brakes, steering, and windows, but the car is a non/AC vehicle so those hot summer days in Southern California would be torture without plenty of cool air pouring through the vents.

No word on which company produced this conversion kit back in the day, but regardless, it would be a shame if some hard-working enthusiast doesn’t take up the yoke and restore it half a century later! When completed, this one would be a real showstopper at the local car show.

  1. You could cut that whole mess of the sad Vette with your Sawzall. You’d be doing it a favor. Looks to be the FIRST Vette ever that could carry 4×8′ plywood with the tailgate down!
