Jordan Taylor didn’t think he would ever leave General Motors racing before the end of his career.

But recent IMSA rules changes are the overwhelming reason for his recent decision to leave the Corvette Racing team and return to his family’s racing operation for 2024, Taylor said in a recent interview with Autosport

“I always saw my career staying at GM until the end, especially when I made the move to Corvette Racing, which was always my goal,” the 32-year-old said.

But when IMSA replaced the GT Le Mans class for GTE cars with the GT3-based GT Daytona Pro division for 2022, “it took away some of the passion and enjoyment of driving the cars, and the style of driving that I enjoy,” Taylor pointed out.

He called the decision to leave CR “difficult” to make, but at his age and this stage of his career, noted that it would be an “exciting time” to return to prototype racing and “fight for overall wins and race in a class that has the capability of racing for overall wins at Le Mans, which is something I’ve never done.”

Taylor will return to the team run by his father Wayne, joining teammate Louis Deletraz in a second Acura ARX-06 LMDh in the IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2024.

It was a move he didn’t foresee when he joined the Corvette Racing team four seasons ago after having raced Corvette DP and Cadillac DPi cars during his first stint at Wayne Taylor Racing from 2013-19.

“No, not really,” he replied when asked if he ever thought he would be returning to the family fold. “When I left prototypes, it felt like that was in the rearview mirror. We won two championships, we won two Rolexes (Daytona 24 Hours), and a bunch of things I wanted to win. I never thought I would come back, but as things changed with the rules, the desire to go back came back.”

Indeed, he says returning to his family “is a great place to be,” adding that some of his best years were with the family team “so I’m excited to get started with Louis and create some more memories on the family side.”
