Corvettes for Sale: Fairway Green 1997 Corvette on Craigslist

I definitely have a soft spot in my heart for ’97 Corvettes.

My family and I attended the unveiling of the fifth-generation car at the National Corvette Museum way back in January of ’97, and then four years later I was finally able to afford a slightly used Torch Red example – a car that I ended up owning twice after selling it to a friend and then buying it back again a few years later.

That’s why this unusual ’97 caught my eye being offered for $19,000 on Craigslist out of the Sacramento, California area.

Only 9,752 of these cars were built during the model year, and this one boasts an exterior color that was by far the rarest. Only 155 cars were coated in Fairway Green Metallic, and when that number dipped even lower to 153 the next year, Chevy pulled the plug and moved on.

That’s a shame because it’s really a striking color. We think it would have definitely looked stunning in convertible form in ’98 with a Light Oak top and interior, but we digress.

If you’re looking for a Corvette that has not been abused, this ‘97 might be worth considering. This particular car is said to have been owned by two people, last being purchased in 2003 “by an old man (Grandpa)” who has driven it “like an old man since.”

The car has been driven only 32,000 miles over the past quarter of a century-plus and is said to have spent its entire life in a garage, “preserving its pristine condition.”

To get it ready for a third owner, however, the car has already received some fresh maintenance, including oil and coolant changes, new brake fluid with bleed, and new drive belt, sway bar links, and filters, all within the last 500 miles. Goodyear Eagle Run Flats with less than 1,000 miles are also in place, though it might be worth checking to make sure they’ve recently been installed and aren’t old and dry-rotted from lack of use.

Like many Corvettes, this one doesn’t come without problems, though. The seller admits it has a non-working passenger window and a slight brake pedal vibration at low speeds coming to a stop (sounds like it might need new rotors and pads, perhaps).
