As the “Classic Car Capital of the World” and the birthplace of the collector car auction industry in the United States, Auburn has long been a mecca for automobile collectors and enthusiasts. Worldwide Auctioneers will soon be hosting their flagship sale in Auburn, Indiana over the Labor Day weekend (Aug 31-Sept 2), and there are going to be some incredible examples of Corvettes offered. The Auburn Auction 2023 will be held at Worldwide Auctioneers headquarters at 5634 Opportunity Blvd in Auburn.

The Corvette consignments for the Auburn auction span the 70 years of the Corvette starting with a first year 1953 Corvette roadster which is bookended with the all-new 2023 Corvette Z06. In between are some of the rarest and most celebrated Corvettes including early classics, fuelies, big blocks, restomods, and modern day muscle. Currently, there are 17 Corvettes offered for the Auburn sale, and we expect a few more to be added in the coming weeks.

We picked out four of our favorites to take a closer look at, and you can click here to see all the consignments offered during the weekend. Drop in the word “Corvette” to the search bar to see the 17 individual Corvette offered for sale.

1955 Corvette Roadster

Lot 414
• VIN: E55S001375
• Selling on Saturday Evening

1955 Corvette Roadster

America’s Sports Car may have been introduced in 1953, but it was two years later that that the two-seat platform began to live up to its full potential. Led by Ed Cole and Zora Arkus-Duntov, engineers developed a 265-ci V8 engine for the 1955 Corvette, and its 195 horsepower marked a turning point for the model. While only 700 of these cars would be produced, the move to the V8 cemented the legacy of performance that has been synonymous with Corvettes ever since.

1955 Corvette Roadster

This Gypsy Red 1955 Corvette has spent nearly its entire life in the Northeast and nearly 50 years with its previous owner in New Jersey. The car has undergone an extensive frame-off restoration documented with photos and receipts by noted expert Steve Russ of Russ Corvette Restoration. Gypsy Red was only sprayed on 180 Corvettes in 1955 and the color pairs very well with the beige interior and soft convertible top. The original 265-ci V8 is correctly presented and starts right up. It’s said this freshly restored Corvette is ready for its first judged meet. Will you be the one to lead her to glory?

1963 Corvette Coupe

Lot 430
• VIN: 30837S103605
• Selling on Saturday Evening

1963 Corvette Coupe

Any auction that hosts a 1963 Corvette fuel-injected Split-Window Coupe is one that you want to be at, and Worldwide Auctioneers has a great one appearing at the Auburn auction. This Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe is offered in its original combination of Daytona Blue with Red vinyl interior and to say that its bold is an understatement. The Split Window is powered by a matching numbers L84 327/360-hp V8 engine that is coupled to a close-ratio four-speed manual transmission, and a Positraction rear end with 3.70 gears. The powertrain was recently inspected by a Corvette expert and deemed original to the car. There are 14K miles on the odometer.

Delivered new to its owner in July 1963, the ’63 Fuelie Corvette Split-Window is documented with its original warranty book and owner’s manual. It’s one of only 10 cars estimated to leave the St. Louis factory with this color combination and the addition of the Fuel-Injected engine. The 1963 Sting Ray has been previously restored with a high-quality repaint and fresh carpet, and it rides on the turbine-style wheels with Red Line tires.

1969 Corvette L88 Convertible

Lot 448
• VIN: 194679S710164
• Selling on Saturday Evening

1969 Corvette L88 Convertible

Over the course of 70 years, Chevrolet has created many memorable packages, but it’s the famous L88 RPO that took Corvette performance to a whole new level. Originally making its debut in 1967, only 216 examples would be made in its three-year run with 116 of those to happen in 1969. It was essentially a factory produced race car and Chevy lied about it having “only” 430 hp vs the L71 Tri-Power’s 435 horsepower. The fact that it cost $1032 which was over double the L71’s price tag was done to further discourage those who weren’t in the know.

More than just an engine, this Fathom Green 1969 Corvette Coupe with the L88 package also included the M22 “Rock Crusher” heavy-duty four-speed manual transmission, F41 special performance front and rear suspension, J56 heavy-duty brakes, K66 transistor ignition, and a Positraction rear end with 4.56 gears. This Corvette was further optioned with A82 headrests and a factory heater. A black convertible soft top, Fathom Green C07 auxiliary hardtop, Rally wheels, and redline tires complete the look.

This ’69 L88 Corvette is highly documented with its original tank sticker, Protect-O-Plate, NCRS Shipping Data Report, and Bloomington Gold Special Collection paperwork.
