Corvettes have long been known to bring a smile to everyone’s face, including this Texas teen during the celebration of his 17th birthday.
Nicholas Johnson, who has been diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, wanted a ride in a classic Corvette, so thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and their helpers, his dream came true this week.
Family, friends, and members of the media were on hand Tuesday as the smiling teenager made his way out of his wheelchair and into the passenger seat of an orange 1969 Corvette Stingray, helped by his father Bret, before taking a ride in the vintage C3 coupe with Gary Strader behind the wheel.
Helping to grant the wish were the 12 Kings Car Club of Wimberley and GM dealership Covert Bee Cave.
The smiles continued during the party as Nicholas took a look at his birthday cake that featured a photo of a https://www.corvetteblogger.com/tag/1969/”>1969 Corvette on top before well-wishers sang “Happy Birthday,” and Covert Bee Cave General Manager Mike Ishak offered up a fist bump to the young man as well.
“One of his dreams is to drive one,” his mom told a KXAN-TV reporter. “Sadly I don’t know if we’ll ever get that to happen. Having Make-a-Wish step in and say, hey, yeah, we can make that happen, it’s just amazing.”
A Make-a-Wish spokesperson, standing next to a gigantic “Happy Wish Day” display, said the organization has granted similar wishes to young people in the area, but never before with a Corvette so it was “a super exciting day” for everyone involved.
