Corvettes for Sale: 28K-Mile 1978 Corvette Offered on Craigslist

Celebrating 25 years of anything is a big deal.

Especially when it comes to an iconic American sports car like the Corvette.

That’s why it was no surprise that Chevrolet really pulled out all the stops back in 1978 to make the Corvette’s 25th birthday a special one.

While this Corvette Red ’78 isn’t a true Silver Anniversary car (a $399 two-tone silver paint option chosen by 15,283 customers), it does include the special Silver Anniversary emblems on the nose and fuel cap, like all of the other 46,776 cars built that year in St. Louis.

This red ’78 – which shows just 28,000 miles on the odometer – is being offered on craigslist in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a $15,500 price tag placed by the current owner.

While the seller does admit there are a few marks and chips in the paint, the photos would seem to indicate otherwise as the car looks really sharp to these eyes.

We’ve always loved the look of these late C3 interiors, and this one is no exception. Indeed, the red leather seats and dash appear to be in better than average condition for a 45-year-old car, and a more modern radio has been installed over the years. This car also includes creature comforts like air conditioning, power windows, leather-wrapped tilt-tele steering wheel, and cruise control.

The ’78, of course, marked the introduction of the bubble rear glass treatment that considerably increased the luggage capacity, though it can sometimes be awkward to access the space since the rear glass doesn’t open.

There are some questions about the engine residing under the hood. While the owner believes it’s the higher-powered L82 version of the 350 V8, it doesn’t seem to have the dual snorkel air cleaner and the correct intake, according to the folks at Bring a Trailer, where we first spotted this car.

We remember well when these brand new ‘78s were the talk of the town, especially with the Indy Pace Car edition that graced the showrooms of Chevy dealers across the nation. While this red ’78 doesn’t have that kind of investment potential, it still has the potential to provide lots of thrills for a new owner.
