[VIDEO] Doug Fehan Talks About Corvette Racing's Never Give Up Attitude at Le Mans

During this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, Pratt Miller Motorsports ran an “alternative broadcast” that featured crew members discussing the race and at various times, special guests appeared on the broadcast to give their takes. One such special guest was former Corvette Racing program manager Doug Fehan.

At the time of Doug’s appearance on the streaming show, the no. 33 Corvette C8.R had already suffered a suspension failure and was running two laps down from the class leaders. Doug explained that in IMSA, getting those two laps back shouldn’t be a problem, but it is a huge challenge at Le Mans because the track is so long.

In that conversation, Doug explains how back during the 2018 Le Mans campaign, the three safety cars were deployed in the 4th Hour following an accident, and the LMGTE-Pro class leaders were separated with the leading Porsche behind the first safety car while the Corvette C7R, Ford GT, and others were stuck behind the second safety car. The resulting two-and-a-half minute gap between the two groups of cars lasted for the rest of the entire race.

Fehan goes on to say that winning Le Mans is based on 25% having a great car, 25% having a great team, and 50% good luck. Anyone following Corvette Racing when Doug was Program Manager knows that statement well. But the great equalizer for the team when it comes to bad luck is how they handle adversity.

It’s almost like a personal challenge to each individual on the team,” said Fehan. “There is very little that can happen at Le Mans that has not happened to us, and that level of experience tells you, you can never ever ever give up, and that’s been our motto since day one. People are going to continue to watch because they know that anything could happen.”
