GM May Have a Solution to the LT6's Ticking Noise

Last month was when we first started hearing reports from owners that their 2023 Corvette Z06 had a strange ticking sound coming from the 5.5L LT6 V8 engine. Owners that reported the sound say that there doesn’t appear to be any power loss associated with it, and no Check Engine Lights are thrown either.

Chevrolet issued a Preliminary Information Bulletin for the condition which said following:

“At this time the concern is under engineering investigation, once a repair has been established, this PI (preliminary information) will be updated or changed to a bulletin.”

“No durability issues have been identified with this concern and customer can drive the vehicle until a repair is available.”

A Z06 owner on the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com named My Z06 shared a video of the ticking sound so you can hear it as well:

One month after posting that video, My Z06 is now saying that GM may have a fix for the ticking issue and the good news is that the engine repair can be done without completely removing it from the car. The ticking issue is occurring on the top of the engine, and the valve covers will be removed to access the valve train:

My dealer called me this morning, and told me GM has a fix for the valve tick. It involves new torque settings and possible replacement of the disc’s that set on the valve retainers. I volunteered to get the first repair done, although they have repaired several engines not yet installed in cars yet.

We’ll be looking to hear more from My Z06 to see if GM’s fix has eliminated the LT6 ticking noise once he receives his car back from the dealership. Stay tuned!

  1. Best Corvette ever is the C6 grand sport with the LS3 engine, it is bullet proof. Not only the best looking but an amazing car with hardly any issues at all. In my eyes it is the best buck for a high end sports car. I have 2 one I drive everywhere and the other is a garage queen with no mileage . That car is going to be worth a fortune some day when I’m long gone.

  2. People that wet their pants to buy the first year of production of ANY car that has a “clean sheet” engine that shares no parts with any other previous engine should start using their heads. On the other hand, let them discover all the issues so that when I get mine in a couple of years, it will be revised and trouble free.

  3. It’s not ok to drive it when the valve train is noisy. A dropped valve means a new engine. Which would fix the noise in a different way.

  4. Why wouldnt gm develop another supercharged ls style pushrod motor? That’s what they’re good at. Leave the overhead cam engines to Japan and Europe. Imagine an ls7 with a +2 liter whipple. That would make a c8 a sub 10 second car

  5. “I have 2 one I drive everywhere and the other is a garage queen with no mileage”: really? You think a C6 grand sport with a standard engine will be worth a fortune someday?
Thanks to people like you when I buy a corvette, I can get one with low or practically no mileage at a reduced price. It’s like saving >$10k on a new car. And there is no way it will be a “garage queen”; I’m going to drive the wheels off that thing, like it was meant to be.

  6. Chevy not an over head cam company never will be its a bad design how they configure the valve train computer controled valve clearance what a dumb idea asking for trouble
