During the NCM Bash, Corvette Assembly Plant Director Kai Spande told the enthusiasts in the crowd two important pieces of news. No, this has nothing to do with his impending retirement on July 31st. What Kai told us was that the assembly plant was beginning to build “saleable” 2024 Corvette E-Rays, and that he would be getting one as a CTF to drive in the coming weeks.
Well, that time has come because there is now a Riptide Blue 2024 Corvette E-Ray Convertible that was recently spied in the Plant Director’s parking spot in front of the Corvette Assembly Plant. The E-Ray was also further confirmed to be wearing a non-EX VIN which means that when Chevy is done with this captured test fleet (CTF) car, it can be sold back to their dealer network as a used vehicle.
A member of the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com named John006 was in Bowling Green with his Elkhart Lake Blue 2023 Corvette Z06 and he captured these comparison photos that show these two colors together. In fact, we were rather surprised to see how similar they looked.
Kai’s E-Ray Convertible is outfitted very closely to John’s Z06 Convertible build with Kai opting for the Black Nacelles and Roof, while also selecting the Carbon Flash Wheels with a Machined rim. We also see that Kai added the Carbon Flash mirror caps and spoiler while John006’s Z06 is in body color.

Colors are so close, Rip Tide is slightly lighter than Elkhart Lake. Only my opinion but if you separate the 2 cars it would be difficult to tell the 2 colors are different.
I like the lighter blue but I’ll take an E-Ray in any color
As a Navy vet, I’d like to see Admiral Blue return.
Elkhart closely resembles my Jetstream Blue C6.
should have parked them nose to nose and took some pics.
I have a hard time getting excited about a Corvette with no exhaust pipes.
The colors really are too similar. If I were to see one car or the other parked by itself, I don’t know for sure if I could tell which color blue it is. All I know is I like them both and it’s hard to beat a pretty metallic blue on a Corvette.
BILL, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ?
IT HAS AN LT2 PLUS AN ELECTRIC MOTOR.
I tried to get the GM and Museum employees to stage this photo at the Bash, and they all treated me like I was an idiot for asking……
Black Accents, Black Tops, and Black Wheels look like absolute GARBAGE, especially on blue C8s.
Black Wheels look terrible in general, but the chrome strip makes them look even more horrendous.
I’d be more excited if Bill didn’t have an exhaust pipe
I would have liked to see Jetstream Blue Tintcoat Metallic on a C8.
It’s a shame that they discontinued Elkhart Lake blue plus haven’t started riptide blue yet and I’m caught in this little pocket of time ordering my car which I’ve been waiting for almost 2 years and not able to get the blue that I want. My order just went to 3000 status. Since they discontinued Elkhart Lake blue I changed it to ceramic matrix gray.
I love when people make comments and don’t Know what they are talking about loser.
Is Rip Tide Blue, Metallic? Thanks.
Yes Robert. It’s metallic and it’s spectacular!
