This black on black 1962 Corvette may not be a numbers-matching classic C1.
But it does have an interesting backstory nevertheless.
A previous owner had the car for 40 years and made various updates over the years. In 2012 he replaced the rear leaf springs, and the next year, he updated the drivetrain with a replacement 350 V8 engine and four-speed manual transmission.
When the current owner acquired the car as a non-running project in 2021, he set out to get the car back on the road where it belongs.
Last year, he replaced several mechanical components, including the cylinder heads, intake manifold, carburetor, distributor, valve seals, alternator, radiator, spark plugs and wires, and belts and hoses as well as overhauling the transmission and installing a new battery and moving it to the trunk. Also replaced at some point were the rear trunk panel and the carpeting.
Other features include a black removable hardtop, front disc brakes, Jim Meyer Racing front coilover suspension, power steering, 15-inch Center Line wheels, and RetroSound AM/FM radio.
Despite all the work already done, other projects remain for the new owner, including fixing the non-working horn and doing something about the cracked paint on the hood and various other paint imperfections. On the bright side, replacements are included with the sale for the cracked windshield and torn black ragtop.
The current bid has hit $30,250 with four more days left at Bring a Trailer. Will someone get a reasonably priced C1 when the gavel falls?
