[STOLEN] Black 2011 Corvette Convertible Taken in the Night Along with a Truck and Trailer

The nightmare for every Corvette owner attending an out-of-state show came true for an Oklahoma woman this week.

But Kathy Morris isn’t holding it against the people of Beaumont, Texas, where her beloved 2011 black Corvette convertible was stolen in the dead of night Thursday.

Though she and her boyfriend Carl Crites had left the Corvette parked in a trailer hooked to his truck under very bright lights in a motel parking lot being patrolled by security, surveillance footage around 1 a.m. captured fast-acting thieves pulling up in a black SUV, then breaking into the pickup, hot-wiring it, and driving off with the trailer and the Corvette – all in less than five minutes.

The couple had traveled 500 miles from Edmond, Oklahoma to Beaumont for the Tri-City Corvette Show at the Holiday Inn on Walden Road, which drew 176 entries from five states last year helping raise money for 11 charities.

Morris woke up Friday to find a vacant spot where the truck and trailer had been. “It hurts,” she told KFDM-TV reporter Angel San Juan. “It’s a combination of anger, depression, just wanting to strike out and not believing what you see.”

Despite not having a Corvette to show now, the couple is planning to stay around for the show, thanks to the hospitality and overwhelming support of the community since the theft.’

“Everybody here has been nothing but kind, very helpful,” Crites says. “I don’t hold any animus against anybody here in Texas. It’s just one of those things that happened. Some crooks thought they were better than the rest of us.”

Morris feels the same way, praising Beaumont residents for their support. “They’ve texted me, they’ve emailed me, people I don’t know came up, they’ve picked up the tab for our room,” Morris says. “That’s why we came down to meet them – they’re good people.”

Police believe the thieves probably headed to Houston with the car and Crites is afraid it will likely end up in a chop shop.

Anyone with information about the theft of the triple black 2011 Corvette convertible (license plate DVSBLND), 20-foot enclosed Anvil brand white V-front trailer, and white 2001 Ford F-250 Super Cab pickup is asked to call Beaumont police. The theft took place at Holiday Inn 3950 on I-10 South at Walden Road in Beaumont.

  1. Sounds like really professional thieves – didn’t stand a chance, did they? A friend had a similar experience – his new truck, show car, and trailer disappeared off the face of the Earth.
