[VIDEO] Shawn Pilot Rolls the Dice on Cheap Supercharged C5 Corvette

I’ve not seen the Netflix series “Car Masters Rust to Riches”, but seeing how Shawn Pilot diagnose the terrifying engine noise on this $4600 supercharged C5 Corvette, I might have to go on a viewing binge.

Shawn has started his own channel and I can’t believe this is a YouTube show because the production values are super high compared to any other Corvette YouTuber. It’s also evident right away that the Corvette is his wheelhouse as he begins diving into the scary sound issue of his cheap Corvette and wondering if he has an easy fix ahead or will it be something that costs thousands to fix.

Shawn soon believes the issue is not so much the motor, but the C5’s driveshaft connecting the engine to the transaxle in the rear of the car. After dropping the suspension and gaining access to the torque tube, Shawn is surprised (and happy) to see just how bad the damage is…

Once the car is repaired, Shawn takes it out for a drive and he says it’s damn fast and the most powerful C5 he has ever driven. Once back at the shop, he’s wondering where all that horsepower is coming from. After doing some detective work in reviewing the casting numbers on the block, he discovers the original 5.7L LS1 motor was replaced with the 6.0L LS2. However, because he still doesn’t have any performance data on the car, he takes it to the dyno and it measures 580 rwhp!

Shawn Pilot (known as the wheeler dealer at Gotham Garage on the Netflix hit series Car Masters Rust to Riches ) buys a Supercharged C5 Corvette for only $4600. The low-priced Vette has a nasty knocking noise that may cost thousands to fix.
