[VIDEO] Abandoned C4 Corvette Gets First Wash in 25 Years

The skeletal remains of a mouse are just some of the horrors discovered in a 1984 Corvette that has been ignored for the past quarter-century.

In his latest video, YouTuber Stauffer Garage shares the massive cleanup of this first-year C4 that once commanded the roads with the swagger of a semi-supercar back in the day but has since fallen into filth and nastiness over the past 25 or so years.

The video just shows how even the most desperate of vehicles can be brought back to at least a semblance of its formerly glory, with a little elbow grease and the right chemicals and equipment.

Stauffer starts out the cleaning process with a thorough vacuuming of the front wiper and rear hatchback areas before undertaking a thorough rinsing of the entire car, including the clamshell hood, wheel bays, and engine area.

He then sprays the entire car down with soap and scrubs it by hand, pointing out he wasn’t using the two-bucket method since he wasn’t planning to polish it afterwards.

Next up he tackles the aftermarket wheels and “slightly dry-rotted” tires before beginning the clay-bar phase to remove contaminants in the paint.

“It’s pretty clear the clear coat on the majority of the car is completely broken down and gone,” he says, “so polishing is kind of null and void. We won’t be doing ceramic or applying any wax just because this car needs to be wet-sanded or just sanded down completely and resprayed.”

The interior also springs back to life with the right amount of vigorous cleaning and rejuvenating sprays, and even the carpet in the rear compartment where critters had been enjoying a field day for years looks pretty decent after he’s done with his scrubbing.

In the end, this 1984 Corvette may not be a show-stopper after all the restorative cleaning, but it does look “150 percent better, thank you” to quote the legendary spokesman of the ‘80s, Ferris Bueller.

Stauffer Garage’s work proves you should never give up on a barn find, no matter how neglected it may appear at first glance. After all, life does move pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

  1. It’s not an 84,has to be 85 -89 since it has the tuned port engine. The 84 had the crossfire engine!!

  2. It’s an 85. My second Corvette was an 85 just like it. Black with Graphite interior but with automatic transmission. It was a year old when I bought it and the Black paint on it turned to shit just a year later. I got rid of it and traded it in on a used low mile Bright Red 86. I’ve never wanted to own a Black car again after having that 85.
