1969 LeMans Blue Corvette L88 Convertible

You can’t have a conversation about Corvette performance without a discussion of the L88. The heavy-duty 427 engine package came to light in 1967 and Chevrolet built just 216 total L88s with 116 to come during the third and final year of the program. To discourage potential buyers, Chevrolet rated the L88 with less horsepower than the L71’s 435 while also charging nearly double for the racing engine. While the engine specs showed a conservative rating of 430 horsepower, the reality is the engine would dyno at over 550 horsepower.

Corvette Mike is offering a 1969 L88 Corvette Convertible and Mike calls it one of the best original L88s in the world with an incredible and storied history. The original owner was Richard Thomas, a U.S. soldier serving during the Vietnam War. While stationed overseas, he special ordered his L88 Convertible through GM Overseas Dist. Corp out of New York City. The L88 would be built on April 9th, 1969, but a strike during the year would keep the car on the assembly line. Richard would finally take delivery of his dream car in Atlanta, GA in June ’69.

The Corvette Convertible features the L88 427 V8 mated to the “Rock Crusher” M22 4-speed manual transmission and both the original engine and transmission are still in the car today. It also retains its original Le Mans Blue exterior and original black vinyl interior, original exhaust system, and its original black soft top and original black vinyl hardtop. The L88 Convertible has a total of 15 factory options making it the most-optioned L88 Corvette ever built. Mike calls it the Holy Grail of L88s and who are we to argue with that assessment!

A Corvette this rare has been well recognized by enthusiasts and its list of awards and accolades are almost too numerous to mention. Suffice to say, all the important awards have been garnered by this Le Mans Blue L88 including those from Bloomington Gold (including Survivor), NCRS Top Flight, and the MCACN Triple Diamond Award. 1970 Daytona Yellow Corvette Convertible

Changing gears, we go from the highly collectible 1969 L88 to this highly-drivable 1970 Corvette Convertible. Because of Chevrolet’s strike the previous model year, the production for the 1970 Stingray was cut to just over 17,000 units making it the lowest production year for the C3 sharks. However, the 1970 Corvette would also see some new updates as it included a subtle revision of the front and rear fenders, and new louver-style vents for the front quarters. The exhaust tips were updated to a rectangular design for the first time ever and the front grille was also redesigned.
