The person who owns this 1954 Corvette has been working on it for five years.
Now he’s ready to pass the torch to another enthusiast, and this second-year Corvette is being auctioned off on eBay, where the current bid is $14,300 with the auction slated to end Friday night.
After building just 300 of its new sports car in 1953, Chevy greatly expanded production in 1954 to 3,640 and dropped the base price to $2,774 – down considerably from the $3,495 in the first year.
This project has also slowed down considerably, as the current owner says he’s having a hard time getting a title from the California DMV. One reason for the difficulty might be the fact that the seller says it’s a replica but doesn’t offer any other details. Perhaps some of our eagle-eyed audience members might be able to shed more light based on the photos. One positive note is that the VIN does correspond to a ’54 Corvette, according to Barn Finds, where we originally spotted this car.
In the listing, we’re told that this “1954 replica” has “many original parts,” including two windshields, gauges, speedometer, door hinges, and more. Original to what might be the question, however, and many of those parts appear to be lying around the garage, leaving the new owner with quite the jigsaw puzzle to assemble.
Unfortunately, the seller says this classic C1 is “not in driving condition.” The original Blue Flame Six engine and Powerglide automatic transmission have been updated at some point with a 350 V8 engine and a T10 four-speed transmission that likely would have to be installed by the new owner.
The four bids so far haven’t met the “Buy It Now” price of $22,000. Will it pass the reserve?
