[VIDEO] Cage Match! Brink of Speed Races the C8 Stingray Against the Z06

Our friend Mike of the Brink of Speed YouTube Channel has another great Stingray/Z06 video for us to watch and this time it’s a drag race between his 2023 Corvette Stingray and the new 2023 Corvette Z06 owned by NASCAR driver Jesse Iwuji. Last week the two went for a drive in Jesse’s Z06 Coupe and now we get to see it raced on the track.

To make this battle happen, Jesse and Mike travel to Lou Gigliotti’s new G2 Motorsports Park, an exclusive members-only facility in Princeton, Texas featuring a 3.1-mile road course.

The first races take place on one of the straights with cones set up and signifying 1/8th of a mile. In the first race, Mike’s C8 Stingray makes the perfect launch and leads the Z06 to the end to take the win. In the second race, it’s the Z06 that has the great launch and it takes the win. Each of the races shows the car’s PDR and we can see that the 0-30 mph was identical for the two Corvettes at 1.2 seconds but then the Z06’s 0-60 mph was 2.95 vs 3.2 for the Stingray. Jesse says his second launch control settings were 4500 rpm at 13% slip for those of you taking notes.

For the third and fourth races, the two Corvettes launch almost identically with the two side-by-side for the 0-60 mph but then the power of the Z06 allows it to pull away for both wins.

Next up the two cars are put side by side for a roll race and the Z06 easily takes the win. Mike says he let the car redline on the launch and hit the rev liter while Jesse is feeling pretty good now that his tires are warmed up. “When I got the grip, this thing is on and gone!” On the second race, Jesse gave Mike the hit and while the race was a little more even, the Z06’s superior horsepower takes the win again. We note that the that the 495-hp Stingray is right there in the thick of it until the end.

  1. Therefore…is it really worth all of those extra shekels and wait time when the result is THAT close – especially when there are maniacs adding turbochargers and superchargers to be Top Dawg? 🙂

  2. Mike, Jesse and Team did a phenomenal job with this comparison effort. When I first saw the vlog a couple days ago (I’m sub’d), I thought it was very much like Motortrend TV production quality. Prompts to them!!!! I’m looking forward to the Z06/Stingray track comparison which Mike said was coming soon… 🙂

What I learned… Unless you’re one of the few that’s planning on tracking a Z06, IMHO the Stingray dollar-for-dollar is the better overall choice… There’s a good chance that in a streetlight-to-streetlight scenario the Stingray with more down low tq and grunt comes out on top… After that, the Z06’s extra 170 HP would definitely dominate, but at those speeds you’re lucky not to see blue lights with the chance of losing your licenses…Ha!!! You’ve got to really ask the question…is an equivalent optioned Z06 really worth the additional tens of thousands of dollars? Plus, with dealers out there asking for a $50K ADM or more for a Z06; the more I see, the more I think the Stingray is the way to go. It really is a lot of Corvette for the money..

  4. Ya’ll dawged me when i posted i could build a StingRay that would kill the Z6 for far less than 30k.. With my $30K, TTs would match up top end nicely and a 97 throttle body with a CF ported & polished intake topped off with a lil’nitros. And the StingRay will not be running hard to win,, but….Now if the Z adds what I did , I’m toast , burnt toast at that. Happy New Year 2 All

  5. The Sting Ray is the best street Car and has more through weight 6.2 liters vs. the then the FPC 5.5 liter. And will pass the Z06 every time he has to stop for gasoline! Wait until you have to pay the Gas Guzzler tax on the Z06!
