During a trip to New York City with some long-time friends back in the late 1980s, I remember passing the graffiti-covered skeleton of a stripped-out car on the side of a major road in the Big Apple.

What’s left of this yellow C7 Corvette coupe reminds me of that scene from more than 30 years ago, only this Stingray wasn’t the victim of parts-scavenging thugs, it was a casualty of a crash on the 10 Freeway in San Bernardino, California on Saturday night.

OnScene TV captured the pitiful sight, with the 460-horsepower LT1 V8 engine lying on the highway several feet from the rest of the Corvette. Three of the wheels were apparently ripped off by the impact, and there’s not much left of the body panels from the windshield forward or backward. The entire front section is gone, as are the passenger side rear quarter and door panels

Believe it or not, though, OnScene TV says the C7 driver suffered only minor injuries and walked away from the crash. He may not be as fortunate to walk away from any California Highway Patrol charges or violations resulting from the incident, however.

Witnesses say the yellow Corvette may have been racing with another Corvette when the crash occurred, and several other vehicles were also damaged during the melee, including a Ford Edge.

  1. HE’S GOT THE MONEY TO BUY ONE , BUT NOT THE SKILLS TO DRIVE ONE.
HE’S GOING TO PAY FOR ALL THE DAMAGE TO ALL VEHICLES.
A FOOL AND HIS CORVETTE ARE SOON PARTED, OR DEAD.

  2. Wonder what would have happened if the engine was behind the driver? Frunk probably would not have saved him.
