Mark Reuss Shares 'Electrifying' Corvette News During GM's Investor Day 2022

With this year’s release of the new 2023 Corvette Z06 featuring the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 that churns out 670-hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, you could say that this new C8 from Chevrolet has already reached the summit of Chevrolet performance. But according to GM President Mark Reuss, it sounds like the automaker is just getting started.

We know from closely following Corvette news and rumors that Chevrolet is looking to expand on its hot-selling C8 line-up. Still, there’s always another level of excitement when you hear GM brass talking about “future products.”

During GM’s Investor Day Presentation in New York City on Thursday, Mark Reuss revealed two new Chevy sports cars are on the way in 2024. Images of the vehicles were shown to participants but were redacted from the Livestream made available to journalists. According to this article on FoxNews.com, Reuss reportedly called one the “next version of the C8” and said that “you won’t be able to imagine from a performance standpoint.”

Back in April 2022, Reuss told CNBC about an electrified Corvette being offered as early as next year. We believe the electrified C8 Corvette Reuss was referring to is the E-Ray, which is expected to be the next C8 model to be released. The E-Ray will feature GM’s electric Ultium drive motor(s) on the front axle for all-wheel drive performance.

As for the other car based on the C8 architecture, the FoxNews article quotes Reuss saying that it will be an “incredible performance car” and should “set the standard of the world for performance for Chevrolet.” That would most likely be the C8 Corvette ZR1 which takes the Z06 5.5L powertrain and adds twin turbochargers for upwards of 850 horsepower.

With Reuss saying that both Chevy sports cars are on the way in 2024, it’s our speculation that the E-Ray would go on sale in 2024 as a 2025 model year Corvette, while the ZR1 would be revealed in 2024 and would go on sale in 2025. That’s how you would get “both cars expected in 2024,” with one being on sale while the other is simply revealed. With a slower-than-anticipated rollout of the red-hot Z06 still underway, we doubt that Chevrolet would cannibalize sales of the Z06 to launch a Corvette that sells for less, as the E-Ray is expected to have a pricepoint between the Stingray and Z06 models.

  1. They keep announcing things nobody can buy. How about they figure out how to actually build them first? Beyond ridiculous.

That said, they can drag their feet all they want on that electrified garbage…no, no, a thousand times no. I like to keep my Corvette parked in the garage, not 4 blocks away in a open lot in case it catches fire in between recalls.

  2. It better have round tail lights! And bring back the stick shift!! lol

Would they add turbos to the 5.5L engine at the same displacement? I think the simplest high performance Corvette would be the E-Ray with a supercharger. We will certainly see some of those. I hope the Zora gets a performance variation of the LT6.

  3. Need to put the engine back where it belongs in a corvette..In the front…And no thanks to electric………

  4. Hell yeah rtbasey…we CANNOT be the only 2 people on earth who have been ACHING for round tail lights. I can’t stand the incomplete looking, these will do for now design of the tail lights..what a disappointing look to a car with such high potential. Attention: Harlan, Tadge, Reuss, Mary…whoever…GIVE US ROUND TAIL LIGHTS ALREADY. Zora wants round tail lights the way they were meant to be!!!! Please!

  5. MANY FANS OF THE CORVETTE CARE

WE WILL SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE WANT A HYBRID CORVETTE.
MANY WILL WANT THE NEXT ZR1 WITH 5.5 TWIN TURBO, AND THE ZORA WILL BE THE LAST
HYBRID, (THE LT6 T.T. AND ELECTRIC MOTORS).
BY THAT TIME ALL SPORTS CARS WILL BE HYBRID OR ALL ELECTRIC.

  6. People complaining about rear engine corvette? Buy C7 second hand loads of them around. Production total is 179 526 units.

  7. I’m gonna get on the list at as many dealers as I can for the electric Corvette so when they call me and ask if I want one I can laugh and hang up on them.
