[VIDEO] C8 Corvette E-Ray Rendering from Hot Cars

Ever since Chevy locked up the E-Ray name years ago, rumors have swirled that they might be saving that moniker for an electric version of the mid-engine Corvette.

Well, since GM makes a point of not talking about future products, at least not in any great detail, we still don’t know the specifics of such a Corvette. But at least, GM President Mark Reuss was recently nice enough to tell CNBC that an electrified Corvette would be coming sooner rather than later.

Speculation on the internet has been that such a car – with electric motors helping boost the output of the gas-powered LT1 engine – might even arrive as soon as next year. Reuss himself admitted that a fully electric Corvette is in the works, too. Based on how long it’s taken the Z06 to arrive because of supply chain and other issues, we’ll believe it when we see an E-Ray sitting in an owner’s driveway.

While we’re waiting for the hard work of Chevy engineers to come to fruition, that doesn’t mean we can’t at least dream a little about how the E-Ray might look.

Instagram artist @rostislav_prokop took things much further than a dream, though, with a recent rendering we spotted on HotCars that offers a revolving 360-degree turn around what he thinks the hybrid Corvette might look like all done up in an eye-catching bright yellow.

@rostislav apparently believes such an upgraded model will be a wide-body version like the Z06, incorporating similar side scoops and boomerang side molding, though some of the aggressiveness seems to have disappeared from the more mellow front and rear ends in his drawing.

If you didn’t know better, though, you’d swear you’re looking at the real thing. We’ll just have to wait to find out for sure in the coming years.

Personally, I like the concept of the E-Ray, but we’re not sure it’s worth the likely additional money that will be required over a Stingray. What do you think? Would you buy such a Corvette?

  1. Really surprised to hear that they would be dropping back to the LT1 engine to power the E-Ray.

  2. Wheels wrong. I question that they would half close off the rear vents. I would assume it would more likely use the same spoiler as the base Z06 which is simple and looks better. Exhaust? Could come up with something better.
