While in Pennsylvania yesterday for the start of Corvettes at Carlisle, we received the unfortunate news that the Corvette Assembly Plant will be closed next week due to parts supply issues.

The Assembly Plant is expected to reopen the day after Labor Day, which is September 6th.

News of the shutdown was picked up by the The Detroit News which had a statement from a GM representative:

“Our supply chain, manufacturing and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to mitigate any further impact on production,” said David Barnas in a statement.

The Assembly Plant has had quite a remarkable run in this challenging manufacturing environment. The last time the assembly plant lost a week of work due to a parts-related shutdown was the week of April 25th. The plant had also closed the week of July 4th as part of the annual summer vacation for the 1400 assembly plant workers.

“Short-term supply chain disruptions continue to occur,” Barnas added, “which has led us to make this scheduling adjustment.”

As for those completed Corvettes waiting to be shipped, the parts-related shutdown doesn’t affect the shipping of Corvettes to dealers.

  1. Recently saw a Chevy SUV with a window sticker that said engine and transmission made in Mexico and final assembly in Canada and then sold in Florida. No wonder GM is going down

  2. I’m at the production stage (3400). I guess I’ll be waiting a bit more. I sure hope these parts meet quality standards.

  3. Picked up my 22 in Feb. still waiting for backup module chip!!!
The least they could do is keep me in the loop as to when it will be available.
I’m sure they are going on cars being produced now!

  4. I question that next year production will be back to normal and Z06 production will be much better than 10%. The E-Ray is coming up. What will that do? Those in the back of the bus on deposit lists may very well never have their Z06 number come up.

  5. I think we also need to talk about dealers buying corvettes and selling as used with a $20K markup, or auctioning off Z06 allocations and also selling them for $90K over MSRP. I know you can get an allocation right away on a Corvette if you cough up some $$$$.

  6. Blah, blah, Government Motors, blah, blah. Reminds me of bullies in school, all talk and no action. How can a major billion dollar company be run by such a bunch of pansies. Stop playing the victim card, stand up, get your thumb out of your butt and create a division to produce what you need!
