[PICS] Let’s go for a Cruise with the Corvettes on Woodward Charity Food Drive

For more years than we can recall now, Corvette fans have gathered on the Wednesday night before the Woodward Dream Cruise. The mission is simple: have fun, talk Corvettes, and give back to the community.

What once began as a 75-car run down historic Woodward avenue has grown into a multi-day, multi-event celebration of our hobby. Wednesday night’s annual gathering and food drive have quickly become a must-do event if you’re in the Metro Detroit area around Dream Cruise time each year. Satellite events this year included tours of the GM Heritage Center, the Lingenfelter Collection, and Pratt Miller.

We just dropped the hood on the 2022 edition of Corvettes on Woodward, and, as usual, the generosity of Corvette owners was on full display. After the morning stop at the GM Heritage Center, patrons headed to the DoubleTree Hotel on Woodward Avenue. The lot opened at 1pm and filled steadily over the course of the day with a noticeable uptick of Corvettes as the after-work crowd filed in.

The staging at the hotel provided an opportunity to check out other Corvettes, talk with the owners, and check out displays by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering and Nowicki Autosport. Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles, even popped in with his white on blue 2023 Z06/Z07 convertible.

The local police showed up promptly at 7pm to close 2 of the 4 southbound lanes of Woodward Avenue. From there, 200 or so Corvettes slowly filed out of the lot and headed 5 miles south to the Open Hands Food Pantry to drop off a bevy of nonperishable food items.

The Corvettes on Woodward charity food drive was another resounding success. It’s just a nice laid-back event. There’s no judging and no show and shine awards. Rather, it’s an evening comprised of general revelry and witty banter among Corvette friends from all walks of life.

Each year, organizer Larry Courtney, the DoubleTree staff, and a cast of volunteers execute a first-class event. If you’re planning a trip to the Motor City for the Woodward Dream Cruise, be sure to arrive a few days early to participate in all the Corvettes on Woodward activities.
