[PICS] The Corvettes of the 2021 Woodward Dream Cruise

After a one-year Covid hiatus, the world’s largest single-day automotive event returned to the Detroit suburbs and world-famous Woodward Avenue. An estimated 1,000,000 people and 30,000-40,000 collector cars hit the streets, parking lots, and city parks all along the road to celebrate our beloved car culture as part of the annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

Woodward Avenue became the first paved stretch of road in the US in the early 1900’s. Later in the ’60s and early ’70s, it morphed into an informal proving for Detroit’s latest iron. As the insurance companies took over and the muscle car era closed so did the cruising on Woodward. Then, in 1994, the event was reborn to raise funds for a local ball field. Since that time, it’s grown into the massive event we know today. The actual Dream Cruise takes place on the 3rd Saturday in August each year, but pending weather, cruisers will be out most weekends as soon as the weather breaks in the spring.

This year we were able to hit Woodard on the Friday before the cruise and the actual cruise day on Saturday. On Friday we hung out in Royal Oak around the 13 Mile road area which tends to be the epicenter of the event. There we were able to wander the various parking lots, Memorial Park, and the big Chevrolet Performance display. There they were giving away free t-shirts and displaying the latest Chevrolet aftermarket products. Among other cars, Eric Jones’ silver 1969 coupe and a yellow 2022 C8.R Edition Stingray drew crowds throughout the day.

On Saturday we perused the sights in Birmingham between 14 and 15 Mile roads. Chevrolet was back here in their traditional spot in the “Triangle”. Of course, the Corvette display was front and center within Chevrolet’s area. A pair of C8 Stingrays were parked on their own display stand and were surrounded by onlookers all day. Adjacent to that, the Corvette evolution display showcased the marque’s heritage across all 7 previous generations.

The Woodward Dream Cruise belongs on everyone’s automotive bucket list. It’s impossible for us to accurately describe the scope of this event. Collector cars are everywhere.
