The hits keep coming for those of you who want to buy the 2023 Corvette Z06. As if the allocation rollout fiasco wasn’t bad enough, today we have a screenshot from GM’s computer system that shows the 2023 Corvette Z06 will be limited to just 10% of total C8 Corvette production.

The graphic posted on the MidEngineCorvetteForum shows that the Corvette Allocation Group is broken out into five distinct models and then it shows the # of National Allocation Quantity as well as the length of the constraints and why the constraint is in place. The model groups are Stingray Z51 with MagRide, Z51 Stingray without MagRide, Base C8 Stingray, Base Z06, and Z06 with Aero.

The Stingray models will be built with 60% allocated with Z51, and 40% without Z51, while 60% of the Corvette Stingrays with Z51 will also have Magnetic Ride Control. The notes say that MagRide is a “Microchip Supplier Restriction” while the constraints on the Z51/Non-Z51 are simply listed as Supplier Restriction.

For the Z06 models, it shows only 10% of C8 Corvettes will be Z06s and that this is a Plant Restriction. Based on total Corvette production, only 3% will be Z06 Aero Cars (big wing T0G/T0F), which is 30% of Z06 production.

2023 Corvette Z06 will be Limited to Just 10% of Total C8 Corvette Production

To put this into perspective, the August 2022 order cycle had only 281 Corvette Z06s allocated nationally, If we take that figure out 10 months, that’s just under 3,000 Z06s for the model year, assuming the total C8 Production goal this year is 30,000 cars. Chevy has yet to build 30,000 C8s in a year, so those Z06 quantities could be even less.

Our first thoughts on reading this was thinking this was due to supply chain issues. But as the graphic’s constraint comment on the Z06’s 10% says “Plant Restriction”, what if GM was internally limiting the production of the Z06 so that the 670-hp naturally-aspirated V8 engine doesn’t screw up the automaker’s CAFE ratings? After all, GM is transitioning to be an electric-only car company, and we can’t have these internal combustion engines messing with the ratings.

This news, if it comes to fruition, will leave many buyers without any hope of buying the new sports car as the quantities produced will never satisfy the demand.

  1. Well GM has become nothing but a dope dealer. They got us ll hooked on this car so many have put down deposits and will never see the car. Only the rich who don’t care what the secondary market charges will get one. They are dangling the drug but you can’t have it. Same as Ford and the GT and now they are at every auction for 3 x purchase with 162.4 miles on the clock

  2. LOL. Never thought I’d see the day when it’d be cheaper and easier to buy a McLaren, Ferrari or Lambo than a commie union dungeon built Corvette. At least Emelia Hartford will have a perpetually broken one to put on YouTube once every couple of months for us all to shake our heads at. Fine work Mary.

  3. Read: “The Z06 is a limited production model. Unless you are a celebrity or ‘influencer’, you’re not getting one, no matter whether you placed a deposit or not, no matter how much money is burning a hole in your pocket, no matter what your status is in the blue-collar Corvette community.”

There, I fixed it for you.

  4. So mad that I have waited so long I can’t even comment on your horrible decision to treat your corvette and Chevrolet customer base. I hope you go out of business for the ruthless way you have handled this product. I will never purchase another GM product again

  5. if you want a shot at one of the next supercars , you have to get on the list now. You are prob late already. I got on the Eray list last year. i was late on the z06 then..and then , forget you are on it , they’ll call you when it’s time..

  6. GM has turned the whole Z06 thing into a Cluster *F*, and this continues to be a disappointment. Time to consider real “Supercars” that are attainable if you have the money and stop this dangling of the carrot. It’s only a deal if you can get one, and the Constr8nts are making it less of a deal. There’s a reason that true supercars cost what they do, which is the same reason divorces are expensive…because they are worth it.

  7. This annual production limit of 10% of volume just for Z06 models assumes perfect supplier coordination to stop all the past typical constraints during this eighth generation of Corvettes that has slowed potential production from the 2 shifts at the Assembly Plant.

Has anyone kept track of ALL the delays since the Corvette started production – now double that list for the future production status of the almighty Z06 as Chevrolet has lost control of maintaining any supply to meet this crazy demand of both Z06 and Stingray Corvettes!!!

It’s a real shame to want something you can’t have, thanks to all of the current American automobile manufacturing problems.

Try to keep the Corvette faith.
Good luck to all of you real Z06 fanatics and go straight to Hell all of you selling new Corvettes for anything over MSRP.

  8. GM can go have sex with themselves. They’ve screwed the pooch with the pricing and now they’re screwing it again with not mass producing the car. I honestly think they believe the engine is trash so they’re fixing the market so warranty claims won’t bankrupt them. I’ll never buy another GM product.

  9. WTF!? Another GM bs move. Come on GM, get your friggen shit together. Are they trying to move us to Mopar or Ford??

  10. The base C8 with Z51 is an awesome performance bargain, trust me 98% of the people that buy one will never use the performance it has! Just forget about the Z06 and move on!

  11. I finally get enough $ to get a 2023 vet & now this bullshit? NEVER AGAIN GM!!!! I think I’ll keep saving up my cash for something else 🤔

  12. I gave up on owning a Z06 when my dealer that I purchased five Corvettes from including a C8 changed management and told me they wanted a 10K adder for the privilege of buying one. Really bugged me!

  13. I was lucky enough to get a 2021 Z51 convertible in early 2021 and I have a deposit down on a Z06. Based on the recent news about Z06 availability, I don’t have much hope of ever getting the higher revving version. On the other hand, my Z51 is so fast that the Z06 is not really much faster on the street even if it would be a little quicker at the track. The likelihood that the high-rev model would be fun to hear as you zoom around makes it enticing. The pace of GM’s rollout makes it less so.

  14. Boycott this bullisht and don’t buy them. Consumers should act like an ant colony and function as one unit! If Chevy was to play that way, repay the favor with a taste of their own medicine. If no one bought a new Corvette for the next 3 years, with an explanation as to why “we” are doing this. You can bet your bottom dollar, things would change, and quickly…
