RUMOR: GM Has Started Producing and Stockpiling Z06-Specific Parts for Customer Cars

If the pandemic and the resulting supply chain issues have taught large manufacturers like General Motors a lesson, it would be that you can no longer rely on “just-in-time” deliveries of parts for high-demand vehicles.

At least, that’s the lesson we hoped they learned, especially after the recent news that the automaker has parked approximately 95,000 nearly-completed autos which are waiting on components to be finished. So far the Corvette has been protected from such a debacle with only the Rear Park Assist modules being dropped for a limited time with the promise it will be added back to customers’ cars when available.

While we’ve been waiting for the legendary (or infamous) Bean Counters aka GM Finance to DO THEIR JOB and get out the pricing for America’s newest supercar, we do have some good news that suggests others at GM aren’t waiting on the sidelines and have officially started making and stockpiling specific parts for the Z06.

The news comes from our friend John at the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com as he tells us that a personal contact who works at a GM plant is confirming his facility has already started the production for a Z06-specific part. Here is what John said:

MORE Z06 production progress! Thanks to my little birdie for sharing this very precise information. I have known this person who works at a GM plant for quite a while; his integrity and honesty is 1000%. He noted that unlike previously when they made small batches of this specific part initially for the very first mules/EX versions, and after that but before recently for Z06 CTF’s, they just started turning them out in mass, in numbers meaning for customer cars.

BTW today’s confirming information fits in with the timing for the start of regular production date I have heard (that from three top-level sources). Things are moving ahead.

That is great news indeed, John!

GM hasn’t provided any indications for the start of regular production (SORP) for the Z06 other than “Summer Availability.” And while it seems like those bean counters are behind in getting out the pricing and order guides, we are still within the time window for all that to happen and still see Z06 production starting up sometime in September if not perhaps just a little sooner.

  1. Finally some good news. Especially for us 65 year olds who don’t have much time left

  2. This is just standard operating procedure for the pre-delivery of Z06 specific parts the plant will need once Z06 production begins.

  3. One of these years Chevy will release pricing so the dealers can play their ADM game and the flippers can get ready to make big bucks
