Corvettes for Sale: Vintage Road-Racing 1961 Corvette Offered on Bring a Trailer

This 1961 Corvette convertible is more than ready to see a little competition on the race track.

Currently up for sale on Bring a Trailer, this black over black late-C1 has been heavily modified to get it ready for racing.

After buying the car last December, the seller installed a Comp Cams camshaft, MSD Digital 6AL ignition control unit and Blaster 2 coil, and Summit Racing intake manifold and 600-cfm carburetor in place of the original fuel-injection that is included with the sale. Lifters, rocker arms, pushrods, thermostat, and spark plugs were also replaced at that time.

AEarlier modifications included a reinforced frame, welded-in roll bar, removable hardtop (but no soft top), American Racing 15-inch alloy wheels, Hoosier Comanche racing tires, lowered suspension, 22-gallon trunk-mounted ATL fuel cell, fixed-back racing seats with Simpson five-point harnesses, electric cut-off switch on top of the left rear fender, fire-suppression system, Hurst shifter with reverse lock-out, full instrumentation with a 6,500-RPM redline tachometer and gauges for fuel pressure, oil pressure and temperature, and water temperature. In the center console, a second oil pressure gauge has been installed, along with fuel and ignition switches, brake bias adjuster, and fire-suppression button.

The original engine has been replaced with a rebuilt 302 V8 with a 13.9:1 compression ratio and 0.030-inch overbore, along with Oliver 6-inch connecting rods, World Products Dart II cylinder heads, Howe aluminum radiator, Earl’s oil cooler, and higher-volume oil pump and pan.

With five days left in the auction, the current high bid is $15,000.
