Corvettes for Sale: Matching Numbers 1972 Corvette Offered at No Reserve

As the last of the full-chrome-bumper Corvettes, 1972 Stingrays like this one are growing in popularity 50 years later.

The owner – who’s currently offering his car on eBay at no reserve – admits this one isn’t perfect, but it’s in good enough condition overall to be an enjoyable weekend car for sure.

Paint colors are always an individual taste but count this writer as not being a fan of the War Bonnet Yellow adorning this car. Indeed, when I purchased a 1971 LT-1 a few years back that was originally in that shade, I was extremely grateful that a previous caretaker had chosen to do a repaint in an eye-catching orange instead.

Anyway, the seller describes the WBY paint on his car as looking “great” but with “a few paint blemishes.” The three-score-and-more photos accompanying the listing show the paint to be more than acceptable, however, at least in the digital world.

The black vinyl interior has no apologies to make, however, as the seats, door panels and dash are all in nice condition. The replacement after-market radio appears to have been somewhat sloppily installed, but that should be an easy fix with another more up-to-date unit perhaps.

Back in those days, the race between automatic and manual transmissions was running about 50-50. Out of the 27,004 cars built for ’72, this car is one of the 14,543 with a Turbo-Hydra-Matic automatic – hooked to the numbers-matching 350 V8 engine capable of 200 horsepower.

Other equipment includes power steering, brakes, and windows. New Cooper tires and brakes have been installed, and now the car “runs and drives great,” according to the seller.

Since it’s a no-reserve auction, a new owner is guaranteed. So far, 23 bids have been placed, rising to $18,900 with activity coming to an end on Tuesday.

  1. Who cares if you don’t like WBY. I’ll bet you wish you didn’t buy a repainted wrong color car. Everyone does regret it when it comes time to sell. Nice car
